I contacted Chris again just now about my Ready Steady Go DVDs being missing in action for 8 weeks now (me in the USA), he was most sympathetic, and said it wasn't just me. He did some digging just last week for someone else and discovered there had been a Royal Mail backlog logjam at Heathrow for some time, and that now (they say) everything is on its way. Chris said he would send a replacement if it doesn't arrive by Nov 30. I do appreciate that...

I'm glad to report that my Ready Steady Go DVD set finally arrived on 11-25-23 !! The package had 2 dates on it, 10-10-23 and 11-15-23, so not sure what this means, if it took 6.5 weeks or 10 days to get across the pond. Thankful though that it finally got here, now onto ordering The Hollies DVD...

Anyone got their Colour Me Pop DVD yet? Still nothing here. Nothing here either. I hope there's something by Christmas. You would think someone on the forums would have come forward with news of a delivery by this late date. Still we wait...

I'm sorry that (and can completely understand why) you're coming to that conclusion though FWIW I know Kal aren't a scam. To just requote what I said on the Steve Hoffman forum what it is is a very small operation making a small run of boutique DVDs and dealing with I suspect a backlog of earlier orders of other products as well as unprecedented international orders . That's not to excuse the late delivery of this product but I hope it goes some way to explaining it. I have witnessed Kaleidoscope have issues with late delivery of several products in the past but I can assure you they always get there in the end. I'll message Chris today to try and get an update.

Trying to find out where my orders are, if they're lost or not. (I am in the USA) It will be six weeks this Friday since my orders shipped on the 27th of October Any help/information is greatly appreciated. I just thought something would have shown by now, given that I "expedited" them.

FYI, Chris Perry of Kaleidoscope posted the following on facebook just an hour ago:
--By the end of today every outstanding order will be in the post.
--By 5pm this afternoon, apart from some very recent Late Night Horror orders where we have had to reprint some books, every 2023 order should be on its way. If anyone is ordering before Christmas, tomorrow is the last day to do it and Naresh will guarantee to get it to you before Christmas unless its missed the last overseas posting date from Royal Mail. Late Night Horror is the only exception where new orders will have a slight delay. We expect that new book stock next Wednesday and then we will ship the rest of those aswell. Jango and Wolfshead are not with us yet, and Pipkins is delayed because we are still finding lost episodes. 16th March is the new release date for that.

I am interested to hear opinions on the color/chroma dot recovery presentation. How's it look to you?

It is wonderful! Considering the age of the footage, both picture and audio are really outstanding.
If I've any criticism, it's the actual performance (NOT the producers of this DVD's fault): Despite the presence of Graham Nash, it has the slickness and the middle-of-the-road feel of the 1969 BBC TV special with Terry Sylvester, complete with matching suits and orchestration. A long way from the dynamism of 'NME Poll Winners Concert' 1964, 'Beat Club' 1966, 'Beat! Beat! Beat!' 1967 and (to a lesser extent) Croatia 1968.
That said, this is money well-spent! I just hope that if they release any further DVDs they vastly improve their customer service.

The extras just consist of the show in black & white (a bit pointless) and a short French documentary that includes rehearsal clips.
The vocals are mostly live, though oddly 'Stop! Stop! Stop!' appears to be the studio version, with some additional live vocals. 'Carrie-Anne' - as well as 'A Taste Of Honey' and 'Blowing In The Wind' - has full orchestral backing and no steel drums, similar to the 1969 BBC 'In Concert' version. 'Butterfly' looks particularly stunning, and 'Very Last Day' is a nicely stripped-back version, accompanied just by Tony's banjo and Graham's acoustic guitar. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! We're very fortunate to finally have this long-lost gem.

It was amazing to finally see it! I think I preferred it in black and white as the colour recovered version looks a little unconvincing at times but I expect it’s due to the state of the source material that hindered them a bit. I’ve seen the colour recovery technology used elsewhere with amazing results. It’s a great effort though; very watchable.
The show is great, if not lacking in colour (no pun intended!) compared to other CMP performances. The Hollies are in a dark studio with coloured outfits and eventually their white suits. The cinematography is very tasteful and artistic, particularly on ‘Butterfly’, and it’s interspersed with little cartoons allegedly drawn by Tony Hicks, which narrate the story of the episode.
‘Stop! Stop! Stop!’ is the recording studio backing track as done for TOTP back in 1966 with completely live vocals but a cold ending. ‘Butterfly’ is also the studio track with a live vocal. ‘Listen To Me’ is a complete mimed performance, but it’s a treat to see Graham play Tony’s infamous Vox Phantom V guitar! ‘Very Last Day’ is all live and is certainly the highlight of the set.
‘A Taste Of Honey’ and ‘Blowin In The Wind’ are the 1968 studio versions with orchestrations and live vocals. ‘Carrie Anne’ is also interesting because it’s orchestrated with live vocals, but the instruments are mimed. When the camera zooms in on Bobby, you can hear that he’s playing more than you see him play on the film. So it begs the question; did that August 1968 orchestral session at Abbey Road produce a new version of ‘Carrie Anne’ that we don’t know about?
Another little treat is a set of promo photos of the boys that flash up at the end as ‘Blowin In The Wind’ starts. I recognise the one of Bernie, but I’ve not seen any of the others before. They’re great artistic portraits that nicely capture the boys - particularly a smiling Graham Nash!
The packaging of the DVD is professional and it states that it’s licenced from the BBC, so perhaps it may get re-shown on TV at some point?
Oh and you can thank me for the restored audio for the colour version! I guess I don’t have to keep it a secret any more!
