I just read that Tony Hicks attempted to get Mott The Hoople’s “Roll Away The Stone” for The Hollies. This is very interesting to me, as The Hollies and Mott The Hoople are tied as my favorite band. I can’t imagine “Roll Away The Stone” as a Hollies song, but apparently Hicks could. Both bands shared something in common; both had a major personnel change at a crucial time, since Mick Ralphs left MTH in the middle (!) of a U.S. tour.

Fascinating! Perhaps less bombastic, but I think I could imagine a Hollies version.

If you listen to " It's a shame it's a game" from 74 album, maybe Tony was trying to get the same vibe, after not getting it?🤔
