So the Magic Records discs I've heard are not the best sound despite saying 24bit remastered. I was interested if there are any Magic releases that are recommended.

I didn't know they did that one. I also heard good things about their issue of Butterfly.

Their release of Allan Clarke's first solo album is quite grim - a pity some record company like Esoteric or BGO hasn't taken this one on...

Hollies Live Hits isn't bad... I can't find this version but I see it has some bonus tracks. Any idea where they come from? Seems like they might be exclusive to this release?

Available here: www.discogs.com/release/10939640-The-Hollies-Hollies-Live-Hits'Write On' is from Mainz, 1982/3. 'Daddy Don't Mind' taken from Supersonic TV programme about 1976 and the Heavy/Air medley from a Canadian TV special, recorded in UK, 1976.

Is that medley made up by the label? I think I found a setlist from that special and it doesn't look like it was performed as a medley.

Just went back and had a listen. I'm with you JamesT. Magic certainly worked no Magic when butchering the 2 versions to make this fake one.

'Write On' and 'Russian Roulette' two harder to find albums on CD sound o.k. on Magic if a bit loud and 'in yer face' !
- both include a few bonus tracks, Write On has 'Boulder To Birmingham', 'Samuel', and the solo AC version of 'Born To Run'
while Russian Roulette has a couple of non album 'B' sides 'C'mon', 'Corrine', also 'Here In My Dreams' and the disco version of 'Draggin' My Heels'
plus 'Write On' has some live versions of tracks on it taken from 'Hollies Live Hits' - 'Star' and 'My Island'
the sound on AC's first album 'Arold' was indeed quite dreadful...
if it does ever get a decent CD release the non album 'B' side 'Coward By Name' should be included at the end - the Magic guy had never heard of it hence it's omission on that unofficial release

They do have some interesting bonus tracks. I did find the Live Hits one too. The sound is a bit dodgy but nice to have it.
