Someone mentioned Fifi the Flea recently? I came across this old cartoon, and always wondered if this was actually the idea behind it? ( With a swap between the clown and Fifi ?) 😉😉

Clarke and Nash would have been around 13 years old when it was shown in the cinema probably before the main feature...

If there is one Hollies song I can say I hate it is that one (even including the Everly's cover), but I remember that cartoon well, so now I hate the song that little tiny bit less.

as I have stated on the other thread
No 'Fifi'...then quite possibly no 'Clown', 'Stop Right There', 'Maker', 'Butterfly'....even later 'Marigold' and further solo ballads by The Hollies and by Nash - as 'Fifi' opened a new style and approach for Nash and the group which was explored well thereafter....
and from a historical angle you have to go by what DID happen not 'maybe something else might have'...etc
love it, loathe it, or just laugh at 'Fifi' the song was a key moment for Nash and the group re style change which led to some very memorable later Hollies tracks

however released overseas 'Clown' - recorded over 23-24 August 1966 - originally was on their second 1966 UK studio album; 'For Certain Because...' (Parlophone PMC / PCS 7011)
where as 'Fifi'- recorded on 1 March 1966 - of course appeared on the album before that on 'Would You Believe ?' (Parlophone PMC 7008 - and later PCS 7008)

I skip over it so often I forgot what album it's on.

I think this has been brought up on here before, but it has intrigued me for some time now. Despite being a clear as day knockoff and the unfortunate band name, I actually quite like it. Almost sounds a little Kinks-esque...
As for my thoughts on the actual Fifi, it's okay. Not a favourite from the WYB album, but I can agree with Gee's argument that it's a notable turning point for subsequent ballads they did.
