Reelin' In The Years has just uploaded a clip of three songs from the legendary 1970 Australian TV special 'Don't Get Sunburnt'. It's the first time I believe it's been shown in colour. Hear them rip through 'Carrie Anne', 'Stop! Stop! Stop!' and 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'. Vocally they're on top form, Tony's guitar playing is superb and Bobby is perhaps the most animated I've ever seen from concert footage! It is AMAZING!
I REALLY hope we can see the full 45-minute concert one day!

Brilliant, remember watching this back in the day, it’s was the start of my love for the Hollies, I was a late starter. Yes Bobby is amazing, then again he would have been in his 20’s.,

Great to see this - hopefully if there is a positive reaction to the downloaded songs they might consider releasing the complete performance
we really do need to get the wider public - or more likely the music business itself - beyond the far too long held limited idea of only the 'Nash era' being worthwhile for The Hollies
A number of Youtube replies told that Andrew guy at Parlogram Auctions he should now also look beyond the sixties Hollies albums and go on to the seventies ...
hopefully one day he will

I get the feeling Bob and Tony still love playing, hey why would you bother if you didn't, in the end they are a 60's, 70's band and I think the public like nostalgia, and they fit the bill. I know a couple that love seeing 60's bands , trouble is its hard to find an original member, a lot play songs from the 60's that were hits for others, one plus is the Hollies play around 2 hours of all Hollies songs. I just get annoyed when the Hollies are called a tribute band, tell Bob and Tony that. Its not like they joined the band long after they had a hit, they were part of all the hits. But I do know how you feel Tony, I look at clips of Cliff Richard on you Tube and I think he should give it away, has a shocking wig, looks like he doesn't know what to do with it. You can be controversial, I do like robust discussions. |

Here Wings of Pegasus looks back at the 'mark 2' Hollies in concert in Februray 1969
Fil makes a couple of errors re their history and 'who does what' in the band re saying Tony is on rhythm guitar and Bernie sings besides playing bass (!) so my guess is, like that 'Beatles expert' guy Andrew at Parlogram Auctions Fil is another who has only recently got into The Hollies music - but both are fans of the group so you know that can't be bad...

Maybe if they acknowledged fans other than the Boomer Bus Stop contingent, it wouldn't feel so meh to me. It's like the difference between watching rediscovered old blues musicians or Johnny Cash and sitting with your grandparents while they watch the Lawrence Welk Show a generation ago...to me anyway. |

I'm too tied to the records. |

It's got over 2k views on YouTube in 48 hours so hopefully that encourages someone to release. It would be a nice DVD to go with the rarities release! |

Perhaps a controversial opinion here, but I'll take Allan's lower-register voice over both of the 21st century Hollies albums, the only exception being the title track from 'Then, Now and Always', as Tony sings it and Bobby's drumming shines on it. To me, Allan's 'Resurgence' sounds more like a Hollies record than either 'Staying Power' or 'Then, Now and Always' because his voice IS one of the main parts of the Hollies sound. Even the harmonies on Allan's latest solo LP are more powerful than those on the Hollies' recent efforts. Not to mention, the material featured is so in a similar vein to your typical prime 1970s Hollies album with a mixture of rockers, ballads and the usual meandering "goodbye" song at the end. Although he's not quite the soaring tenor that he once was, it's still absolutely unmistakably his voice and it's amazingly strong considering that he retired some two decades before due to a failing voice. To me, his comeback was the most pleasant surprise in the Hollies story this century. |

Hi all,love reading all the comments, funny I would love to know what the members expected from the Hollies these days, they recorded 2 new albums plus a live recording, they don’t sound like the did 50 years ago, well Allan the former lead singer doesn’t either. Why would you record more, the people who believe they have had their day won’t buy it, the general public want to hear the hits, they would not be interested. I would love to know what groups in the 60’s are still doing. Hey most have one member singing a couple of hits on these 60’s tours, much like Terry Sylvester does, would people be happy with that. Why would the Hollies really do anything for a few so called real fans like us, that are so judgemental . I think for a group that had their last big hit in 1974 they are doing well. Just remember they were never big record sellers, that’s when they were at their top.
Not bad for a so called tribute group

these few guys have been saying the 'same old thing' over and over for more than a decade and a half now - indeed almost 20 years now and no doubt will continue - and have their views had any influence on Tony and Bobby...or the large crowds of people who do still like the group and go to watch them in concerts ?
Great to see Allan return - tho' his voice after such a long break has recovered alot it obviously is not quite the same as in his prime, likewise Nash too as age inevitably makes it's mark
re the creativity - I have said before the current version of the group just like the 'Rickfors Hollies' have the Clarke hits era of Nash/Sylvester and the sixties / early seventies hits around their neck like a millstone
they HAVE to play what the wider public expects ('silly pop songs' as a clearly frustrated Mike Rickfors once put it !) and everyone knows that
my biggest criticism of the current outfit is they by now should have 'phased in' at least six songs recorded with Peter Howarth, dropped all but the odd pre 1965 pop hit (as the 'mark 2' Hollies of Clarke/Sylvester had done by 1976)...added in a few more classic Hollies album tracks to the set list besides of course retaining the many classic hits of 1966 to 1974 including the two Rickfors Hollies hits in order to make the live show fresher, more adventurous, more 'complete' re the group's overall recorded career etc...
instead besides 'Weakness', the two Rickfors era hits, they have pretty much stuck to '20 Golden Greats' hits that were sung by Allan Clarke quite rigidly turning themselves firmly into a pure nostalgia act - when the songs exist to make The Hollies concert shows far more than just that, there is scope to be more modern, ambitious while still playing plenty of much loved classic Hollies songs
Tony and Bobby - just as with slow melodramatic ballads in the seventies on flop single after flop single once again show themselves to be somewhat limited in range, adventure and ambition, with a rather mega cautious 'give the public ONLY what they expect' attitude (something that we saw even back in the sixties and a major reason Graham Nash departed)
The lack of any further albums by the current Hollies is probably down to 'The Hollies Limited' being frankly and sadly little more than almost an 'End of the Pier' show concern re promotion and proper plugging (that was evident long before Clarke left, even before Sylvester left - Nash got them that 'one off' deal with WEA in 1983), also EMI / Warners only appear to view them as a past act re any compilations...and even those have been very scarce in latter years
I can't see anything much ever changing either besides further predictable hits collections...unless Ron Furmanek's archive project finally appears
The current Hollies will continue on playing essentially the 'same old' songs...
and the same few guys will continue on making the 'same old moans'...

Gee, I have every respect for your unending immense knowledge of The Hollies history and doubtless of many other artists too, but you do come across as if you are saying that some of us shouldn't have an opinion on the current line up, and yes I would have preferred that they had stopped at the start of this century and I respect that not everyone would agree with me but there you go ..
Again I could be wrong but I suspect that today's audience would probably never bought never mind heard of the bands earlier albums other than any 'hits' collections and that to me is one of the differences..
Great for Bobby and Tony that they have maintained that following over the last 20 years but what they offer does not appeal to me at all but I am entitled to my views as we all are .....
