I'm in the process of recording a cover of this sadly overlooked (and, to my knowledge, never-recorded) Allan Clarke tune, but I'm having a bit of difficulty picking out the chords in the chorus.
Obviously, the verse is just a simple I-V-IV progression repeated, which continues for the first part of the chorus but then shifts discernably on the "you're just a tree my friend..." line - I was wondering if any of our resident Holliefan musicians could help me pick these chords out.
By the way, what are some overlooked and (ideally) rare Hollies tracks you'd like to see on a covers album? I've been playing around in my 'home studio' these past few months and have a half dozen good oldies covers for a potential album, but this track (and perhaps Maureen) are the only two Hollies numbers I've considered.

' Tomorrow When It Comes' - can imagine a garagey band blasting their way through this to great effect, wah pedals and all! ' Not That Way At All' - I can imagine this one slowed down into a moody singer/songwriter type ballad to highlight the underlying angst.

Can't help you with the first part I'm afraid, but for cover ideas, how about Wings? I'm surprised that song isn't more widely known or covered as it's one of the most beautiful things The Hollies put to tape! ☺ Baz's suggestions are quite good too.

Wings and Not That Way are excellent suggestions - both would also help push the record in a folk direction!

Is there a soundfile of that song... and what key is it generally in?...
