Very sad news indeed. I loved all his big hits in Australia: Game of Love - Come on Home - Pamela Pamela - 24 Sycamore. RIP Wayne.

It's only in quite recent years I've got in to him, and now consider Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders one of the more interesting beat groups (coincidentally I was listening to their great first album just two days ago). I had a couple of near-misses with Wayne personally too: I wrote to him requesting a foreword for my first book a couple of years back, but his partner wrote back too late (after I'd published), apologising for the delay but saying Wayne would love to write something; then, he was due to appear on last autumn's 'Sixties Gold' tour in Margate, something I had front row tickets for, but cancelled due to ill health. A real character and a vastly underrated singer.

Yes, sad news. I didn't see Wayne in the 60s but I saw him a few times much later in those Solid Silver 60s tours. He always wore a big black hat with his long flowing grey hair underneath. I remember one lady in the audience asked him to take his hat off which he did to reveal a large shiny bald patch. This had the audience in hysterics.
He used to make fun of his advancing years. On another occasion, he came on stage and said to the audience 'Sorry I'm late. I was having a pee and I couldn't stop. I could be peeing now for all I know!'.
He still had a tremendous voice and he always put on a good show. As Peter said, another one gone. Very sad.

In fact, Peter Noone and Wayne Fontana were on the same Solid Silver Sixties bill back in 2001, along with Dave Dee & Co and Dave Berry. I bet they all had a great time back stage. Sadly, 3 of the group photo are no longer with us - Dave Dee, Dozy and now Wayne.

Someone else who remains in great voice is 81 year old Marty Wilde, with a nice Beach Boys type song here:
