Re the prospect( or not..) of a money spinner orchestra enhanced project, you would think, and indeed hope, that Tony and Bobby should be comfortably enough off not to be pushed into projects merely for money. However,Peter, certainly will be hit hard, and be missing income from both the Hollies and his Frontmen tours. He doesn't have income from royalties from records,I presume, like Bob and Tony, or not that I know of.Similar situation with Steve and Ian. Ray had his recording studio,I think, so maybe a little better off.
I wonder with the proposed USA tour, with all the huge logistics of shipping out and moving equipment around, if they would actually have made much money? I know they were charging an awful lot for tickets, which made some fans here gulp in disbelief, and they also pegged on the ' Meet and greet ' option, presumably to recoup some costs.( Which some fans here would love)
Somehow don't think it will be rescheduled now...the moment had passed perhaps.
..and Bob has said in recent interview that he's written a bunch of songs with Peter already. Nothing from Tony? You would have thought that Tony and Peter would be the ones to write?

Yes, I too think the moment will have passed. I'd think they'd make more £££ from a comprehensive spring AND autumn UK tour (when did this last happen?) and perhaps some summer festival appearances in continental Europe.
Tony's lack of songwriting (that we know of) is incredible. In my opinion, Then, Now, Always (Dolphin Days), She'd Kill For Me, Skylarks and Priceless are superb tracks from Bobby et al. In particular, Skylarks is quite adventurous.

They would just sit well on a theatre stage.( Maybe that's what Peter and Bobby are working on, for post Hollies careers, who knows?)Peter has written a musical before, and I suspect he will again one day.(.....if they ever re- open😢) I don't dislike them, and this is nothing to do with ' new Hollies ' bashing at all, but the lyrics are a bit forced and shoe- horned in, to my ears. The ideas are great, but I feel a bit clumsily expressed? Allan's recent songwriting on the other hand, is a lot more subtle and lyrical. ( Just my opinion 😉)

I don't see those songs as theatre at all in fact they are the most adventurous songs The Hollies have penned for a long time
funny if they go disco, reggae, synth, do Buddy Holly songs or just sing mainstream pop some find fault....while if they go more ambitious and adventurous like King Midas, Butterfly, Distant Light, Romany, and now 'Skylarks', 'She'd Kill For Me' either their sales dropped off or some disliked it...!
I bet they must have thought they could not win at times... .....hence 'La La Jennifer Eccles'..
Bobby could write - Transatlantic Westbound Jet proved that, but as they had two 'in house' composing teams over sixties and seventies plus a knack of finding fine outside writers' songs he presumably never bothered much until more recently
Tony Hicks lack of anything new is sad as we know he has the talent but just seems not bothered
apparently Bernie Calvert COULD sing too but again with so many strong vocalists in the band he never needed to besides on 'Long Dark Road' singalong to outro...

Huh, I can't seem to pick out Bernie singing on "Long Dark Road". Maybe I'm mistaking his parts for Tony?

According to Bobby both he and Bernie plus the girls were all singing along on the extended outro of the song

Is it not Herbie Flowers on bass on Long Dark Road? A great track. Very likely as it's the first album for which we have a whole load of recording dates but no details what was recorded and when. The curse of recording after the 60's when multitracking overdubs became the norm. Abbey Road were meticulous keeping recording dates and paperwork but AIR Studios likely weren't. If one had the multitrack masters, the only dates written on them would be the initial date of recording, not necessarily when completed hence the Distant Light sessions are impossible to chronicle.
