I have recently been updating my music collection, replacing my vinyl stuff, both singles and albums with CD.
I am a great admirer of The Spencer Davis Group both pre and post Steve Winwood and have been trying to collect both era's of the band which has only recently been possible.
One thing that i came across was a post Steve winwood era single release that was produced by Ron Richards.
Since Ron was a staff producer for EMI and the release was on Fontana, part of the Philips group of labels, i was rather surprised.

Ron and George Martin started their own recording business. A.I.R. So in fact they were independent of EMI. As we know The Hollies went to Polydor in the UK. By the way The Hollies were on Fontana in France.

Could it be that Ron had severed his ties with EMI by this point, or would he have been allowed to produce on another label? best wishes Badpenny.
