Been meaning to post this for a while. Upon Tom Petty's untimely and unexpected passing at 66, it got me thinking about his small personal link with the band.
Mentioned almost certainly for the first time anywhere, Graham Nash recalls how Tom Petty admitted to him earlier in the night of this interview (22 Sept 2011) that Petty briefly roadied for The Hollies while the band were in Florida in 1967! (go to 3.30 in to this link) to hear this story)
(I do appreciate that Reelin' In The Years have posted the full Q&A from this special screening and never taken it down - if you have not ever watched this, it's worth taking the time. There are a few previously untold Hollies tales amongst all the familiar stuff - getting Clarke and Nash to do a Q&A together is a bit of a treat).
A check of when The Hollies were in Florida, aligned with how old was Petty and when he was in a band (The Epics I think), suggests the dates will be 16-18 February 1968 rather than 1967. Most likely he would have specifically assisted when the Hollies were playing in his home town, at the 7000 seat Florida Gymnasium, located on campus at the University of Florida, Gainesville on 16 Feb 1968.
A quick sniff around on the www even revealed a cool, unseen (to my eyes) clear colour picture of Graham Nash being interviewed for local radio while in town.

This pic brings to mind just how many local radio interviews the guys did in their first decade all over the world. The researcher in me salivates at the prospect of maybe a few of these local US radio station chats turning up someday.
