Hi All,
I've been very quiet on here in recent times and keep meaning to post a few new bits and pieces. Me bad - I promise to be more active for the rest of the year.
One tidbit of footage to emerge this year is some very brief footage of The Hollies in San Remo, Italy in January 1967 (most likely 25 January 1967). While no moving image of the actual live performance of 'Non Prego Per Me' from 26 Jan 1967 has yet to surface (some audio though does survive), The H appear in an Italian filmed news magazine sitting on the steps for an impromptu photo/camera session.
Lasting for under 10 seconds, the footage can be found here on YT. For those impatient, jump to the 0.42 second mark.
While Dionne Warwick who follows immediately after is named in the Italian-language narration, I can't hear them mention The Hollies. Perhaps an Italian speaker can translate for the rest of us what the narrator is saying while The H are seen onscreen. The footage has been transferred in low quality, has timecode and watermarks visible and is otherwise pretty unremarkable but...to see any new Hollies footage from the Nash-era is always worth celebrating.
My feeling is that the footage of The Hollies performing 'Non Prego Per Me' is almost certainly gone, as there have been a few anniversaries of the Song Contest and nothing has found its way out following several edited looks back at past years.
So, if you were ever wondering where the shot of the group reading newspapers on a step derives - as used on the Italian-issued 'On A Carousel' picture sleeve 45 - the footage now confirms it was indeed taken in San Remo, Italy.
