Somebody posted on Facebook that they went to see Graham live last night and he dedicated "Sleep Song" to his first wife Rose as she apparently died last week.
They were married in 1963 and divorced in 1968. Little has ever been said of Rose though. She was the "Eccles" in 'Jennifer Eccles' as this was her maiden name. She inspired some of Nash's earliest personal songs like "Tell Me To My Face" and "Stop Right There". Apparently their relationship was quite turmulous. Rose seemed to be a very 'hip chick', often appaearing with Graham wearing the latest psychedelic garments in 1967/8. They attended the "Evolution" album launch together, both dressed in floor length psychedelic kaftans. There's also some crude home footage of them with 'The Fool' in a garden in 1968.
Rose also went with Graham to Marrakesh in 1967, which would have a big affect on his songwriting. By all accounts, they were largely estranged by 1966, with Nash admitting in his autobiography that he was unfaithful to her and it was an 'explosive' relationship.
Either way, she was an important figure in the Hollies story, inspiring some of Nash's most interesting compositions during his time with the band. R.I.P.

Thanks Cam and Peter for these posts. I understand she had not been well for some time but like any passing, where you 'know' someone or feel you at least know them by association, it makes their passing that little bit more personal. RIP Rose; our condolences from all on this site to her friends & family.
