As Tony said, an excellent summing-up there Simon. I think that covers about everyone. I'm in the 'love every era regardless' camp.
Regarding Allan's miming to select songs back in 1999, I too had it on good authority. I and a number of regular concert-goers also witnessed it first hand at a couple of shows. In fact I remember Anthony mentioning this in a post a year or so ago on this forum and was immediately shot down in flames!
Sorry if off-topic again.

Ray Stiles was literally an unsung hero - or rather a 'sung' one - vocally 'underpinning' Allan's lead vocals for several years....quietly 'singing along' the lead vocal lines out of spotlight at the back boosting up Allan's vocal performances
Allan rewarded him by saying things like;
'see him at the back..he used to be a piece of mud !'
I've heard Ray was not too unhappy when Clarkey 'retired'
they had to change the key of songs, drop 'Soldier's Song' and 'Purple Rain' as Clarkey apparently just could no longer sing them - his voice 'cracked up' on the line; 'when the dice of war...' in 'Soldier's Song' when I saw them in 1997 - Hicks, Coates and Stiles all vocally immediately stepped up and sang the rest in close harmony...
'Not That Way at All' was dusted off as it was a song Allan could do - while 'After The Fox' featured not only a taped Peter Sellers but a 1966 Allan Clarke and Graham Nash too !
'Sorry Suzanne' was vocally a recording too...
I went home on that friday night in 1997 and for the first time ever felt they HAD BEEN BETTER - I wasn't really sure what was wrong re Allan's voice (a cold maybe ?)
- but by sheer fluke the next day Granada Plus cable channel screened an old 1974 or 75 episode of 'Supersonic' - the one where Clarkey reunited with The Hollies ROARED like a lion his 'Long Cool Woman' (it's on that LTAW DVD) and it really hit home just how poor Allan's voice had sounded the night before....sad
Carl Wayne in 2000 was like a new engine in the car....!
sorry to go off topic

Were the 1997 rarities supposedly in support of the At Abbey Road box?

Everyone seems to assume that with Carl and then Peter all performed songs returned to the same keys as the studio originals. This is often not the case.

Were the 1997 rarities supposedly in support of the At Abbey Road box? They did 'Man With No Expression' in 1998 which I seem to recall was in promotion of the At Abbey Road releases. I think they were advertised in the tour programme, too.

I tried to log in but there was no payment option I could use. Hopefully it will become a BR DVD.

Did anyone on this forum tape this special? and if so could it be posted somehow, or i'd love to obtain a copy somehow if possible. I live in the united states, so the 192tv site doesn't have an option available for payment for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would love to see this somehow. Thanks so much, Sharon

So did anyone ever track down this special screened nearly 12 months previous? Any info on a song track list? It's funny that many of the most devoted H fans on the globe lurk on this forum and yet nobody here appears to have seen what was presented. I assume this was a Bert Van Breda- compiled Hollies special? Anthony and PeterC - with all your video contacts, no luck tracking this down? Cheers Simon

Anthony and PeterC - with all your video contacts, no luck tracking this down? Unfortunately not, though I suspect that if any "new" clips were included then they would've appeared on people's lists and/or youtube by now.

Isn't this where that "lost" clip of 'Postcard' came from? Other than that, 192.tv have unearthed a lot of rare Hollies clips in recent years including the alternative takes of 'Blowin' In The Wind' (one on the boat and the other with Terry Sylvester), 'Do The Best You Can' (on the boat), 'Listen To Me' (on the boat), 'All I Really Want To Do' (1969 promo), 'Have You Ever Loved Somebody' (French TV), 'On A Carousel' (French TV) and better quality versions of a few clips previously only circulated via bootlegs. This 192.tv seem to have access to lots of European TV archives, especially ones that Reelin' In The Years haven't yet got their hands on. And at least they're circulating them and letting fans see them! There's been some amazing stuff unearthed by the company from all the major 1960s groups in recent years.
I didn't see the special, despite making a few arrangements, I tried to open an account with 192.tv but I think you had to be a Dutch resident to gain access to it online.

Isn't this where that "lost" clip of 'Postcard' came from? I got this in January 2017, so no (though it may well have also been included in the March 2017 special of course).

My favorite band is just that despite my main gripe.....the set lists. Some of the "throw away" tunes like "I'll be your baby tonight" In 75 and "Only love can break your heart" in 71-2. Better choices could have been made. In 72, it would have been awesome if "Hey Willy" had been included, after all it was from the previous year, and Rickfors could have handled the song splendidly. "Won't we feel good" too. The ballads were nice but coming off a No. 1 R&R hit they should have emphasized that side of their music more. In 75 they did the weakest songs from Another Night. "Lucy"? Come on! They didn't need to ape Bobby Goldsboro's Honey so blatantly. Bad.
