Hi Anthony - thanks for posting that pic of a tv performance that is historically significant. That is a pic from Dutch TV show Toppop and the song in question is Curly Billy. This is - I believe - the very first tv performance with Clarke returning to the band after Rickfors had departed. It predates the UK TOTP Curly Billy clip that mostly survives. This Toppop clip has never been rescreened unlike others recorded before and after from thIs tv show, suggesting perhaps the episode from which it derives does not survive. Let's hope it does as I'd be keen to see just how happy and relaxed the band appeared, their main man back in the fold and writing them an instant hit they hadn't managed to achieve in the preceding year.

That is a terrific photo Anthony - they should have been using photos like that on their albums and promotional material !
that pic above would have looked good in the CD set coming out this month and in the above pic they look alot better than in a number of the shots that were used !

I think people have missed the point of this thread... 192.tv (Netherlands) is having an hour special of Hollies clips on 19th March. This is the channel that has recently re-broadcast a lot of believed long lost clips like "Postcard", "Charlie And Fred", "Jennifer Eccles" (pig promo), "Sorry Suzanne" (studio promo where they all disappear at the end), "All I Want To Do" and "Blowin In The Wind" (on the boat). So this hour long special is DEFINITELY worth watching if you can. They are having a week of hour long specials by various artists from the 1960s, so I bet lots of rare clips will resurface for those on here who love collecting video clips. Well that's true, Sometimes I feel just loving the Hollies music here is just not good enough. I have been shouted down before so not keen on posting here, If you like this newer line up better not say it or else. Nice to know you are here.

Thank you Anthony. Most Hollies fans I've encountered over the years have been very nice people but it seems one is only welcome here if they trash the new line-up.
Personally, I'd rather see a new line-up than have the Hollies fade from the scene altogether.

I think people have missed the point of this thread... 192.tv (Netherlands) is having an hour special of Hollies clips on 19th March. Not for the first time either. They did the same a couple of years back, though there was nothing new or rare to us die-hards.
As with Top of the Pops in the UK, it wasn't until the late '70's that Top pop episodes were routinely retained in the archives. So I strongly suspect that the "Curly Billy" clip is long lost. If only all countries looked after their 60s/70s music archives with the love of the Germans: EVERY episode of Beat Club, Beat Beat Beat, Musikladen and Disco survive intact, as well as some Beat Club / Musikladen outtakes!

I think the statement "one is only welcome here if they trash the new line-up" just isn't correct. Couldn't be further from the truth. This me expressing my opinion and not picking on any person so please don't think I am.
Everyone has an opinion on what period Hollies (both recording and live)they prefer best and are passionate about that. After all comments here are only words on a computer and can be interpreted however one wishes.
I am sure no one here picks on anyone but just passes their opinion.
I have to say nobody will find out the amount of information placed on this site anywhere else. There are many knowledgeable people here from every period of the Hollies.
I also happen to think this has gone a long way off topic.

Your opinion is just as important as everyone else's here. Thanks for joining and contributing to this forum. As you have no doubt seen while lurking on this board, there is a fairly wide range of opinions on here which I've always encouraged. Naturally if it crosses the line and gets personal, then I will step in. In all the years I've been doing this role - and admittedly, I don't do it very well!!! - I think I've only ever edited 3 words out of one posting. Everyone here IS very nice and I can say that having corresponded privately - either emails, phone or in person - with the majority of people who have joined up to this site. If people feel they have been rudely treated on various posts, I would ask that they privately message the person in question just to let he or she know. As I said, I've found everyone here to be entirely fair and reasonable. It's just that some people have wordy writing styles (like myself, Cameron or Gee! :-) and others are short and sharp (like Tony W). So to yourself and Anthony, don't lose the urge to post - people want to read what you think. As DirtyFaz has said, there's really nowhere else on the web where Hollies fans can lay it all out there and be encouraged to do so. Some people on this site know a lot, others a little less but all are welcome here, regardless. I could lock the site and make this readable only to members who log in but I think it's a positive that anyone on the net who comes across EO can read what goes down here - they just have to join if they want to comment. I'm constantly amazed by the variety of Hollies fans. There are the Nash-era lovers, the Sylvester-era fans, those that really dig when Mikael Rickfors fronted the group, the Carl Wayne era, and now The Peter Howarth era, not to mention those who love only when Clarke was in charge and those that love every era regardless. I've said this on quite a few occasions that I'm not a massive lover of the present line up. That said, I've seen the Howarth Hollies live 4 times including the recent Feb 2017 Melbourne concert. For every Hollieholic who analyses, critiques, ruminates and delves over the minutiae of the band (I'm in this camp obviously), there are 100 other Hollies fans who simply love the music and keep going to their concerts, uncaring as to the specifics of the line up, the background stuff or anything historically contentious. The songs are all that counts for most people. The thing that endlessly impresses me about the current band is that: (1) they use absolutely world class sound systems - they never sound like they've used whatever PA was lying around. This attention to detail does back to the mid 1960s when they acquired their first Swedish state of the art sound system. They cared about their sound then and they still do today. It's a testament to their supreme professionalism that this side of the band has never wavered. I do think however if Clarke was still firing on all cylinders how incredible he'd sound with the technology on offer today. Sadly, live tapes of the past reveal to my ears that his best vocals years ended round 1985, and from then on, the quality of his output became noticeably diminished. By the very end, he was having others boost his parts on stage and in some cases, miming to tapes on a select few songs. I have the latter on good authority. So enjoy the crispness of the sound of Howarth's voice even if it isn't Clarke's. I can accept those who think it should have ended in 1999 - Clarke is one of them - but I also appreciate how the present band HAS managed to build a big younger audience through its unmistakable talents. It's not the same of course, but it's still good. (2) they have chosen wisely with their replacements. Stiles and Parker have been absolute warriors for decades and continue to do a top job. Howarth is a very talented singer and musician and seems to have the between song patter down to a fine art these days. In the early days, I felt he tried too hard with his 'We are The Hollies' shouts that IMHO were out of place but he's very comfortable these days and a very fine all round performer. Steve Lauri has his critics but he certainly adds value to the band's sound, even if he does not possess the harmony vocal chops of Alan Coates/Sylvester/Nash. Again, Ray Stiles is a bit of an unsung (no pun intended!) hero here. (3) The old blokes can still play! Bobby and Tony are marvels and while some of the playing has slowed down - which you'd expect of men aged 75 and 71 respectively - when I compare to other '60s/70s/ groups that are just hanging on - or were gone years ago and refuse to acknowledge it - The Hollies still put on a very good, excellent value for money live show. No two ways about that. Melbourne's Hamer Hall holds about 2K and they nearly filled it again. There were plenty of repeat attendees from their concerts of recent years. I respect their decision to continue because they still make lots of people happy. My happiest moment of the Melbourne show was when Hicks again sang lead on Too Young To Be Married. How I wish the band had messed around with their back catalogue more like this, in their decades on stage. Nevertheless, they continue to do lots of things right. My main criticism of their live shows remains the stagnant end of show countdown. The Air That I Breathe, He Ain't Heavy and Long Cool Woman have basically ended every Hollies show since 1974. It's frankly really boring that every single show ends the same way - yes they've thrown in the a capella It's In Everyone Of Us, there's been a few bars of the odd rock song cover and in Germany Blowin' In The Wind has had an occasional look in towards the end. But why not mess with the order a bit? Start with Long Cool Woman, end the first half with Air and sure, finish with Heavy. People who keep coming back to hear them will sense they've put some extra thought in rather than telephoning their end of show performance from the dressing room for the expectant standing ovation from an ageing crowd, that it must be said, at the end of a very hit filled 2hours, is happy to stretch its legs. There are so many hits from which to choose. They could finish Australian shows with Too Young To Be Married and everyone would be happy. They are a very hard working band so why do they remain so lazy with their end of show songlist? To me, this is a constant source of frustration and the one nod to The Hollies being a nostalgia band, rather than a band with a truckload of hits and several contemporary albums from which to effortlessly pluck out an exciting live show setlist filled with surprises. And it were ever thus, Nash remarking with some surprise after seeing their 75 LA Roxy show that but for 3-4 tracks, it was the same setlist as they were performing when he was in the group. Some old habits die hard. "Give the audience what they want to hear" is fine but that doesn't mean they can't mess with the running order of the 'holy trinity' of mega-hits across 40+ years. Anyway...GreenGoddess, please accept my apologies for my oversight and if indeed, there are others who feel I've also not formally welcomed them, I extend that apology to them also. Thank you for that, Simon. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a welcome greeting. It just would have been nice to have had an answer to a couple of things I asked. It's in the past so it doesn't matter.
I do agree with you that the knowledge here is second to none and I have learned a lot. I have been a Hollies fan since the very beginning - the first time I heard Aint that just like me way back in 1963.

Yes, hands up I can be short and sharp, also usually forthright and outspoken, it's just the way I am..
But cannot emphasize too much that I sincerely DO respect everyone else's view and we are all Hollies fans in whatever guise...
