The Hollies - Collection 1964-67 (7 Albums) [Japan LTD (mini LP) SHM-CD, 2013]
Just a query; I'm sure this was dicussed on the older forum a lot; for anyone who has heard these, is the sound (stereo versions in particular) any better than the EMI reissues?

I have all of the Japan CDs from 2013/14. They have been issued up to Romany making it 12 CD plus the 2 Hits collections.
Firstly my ears are not that good anymore and I can't say if they are better that the UK ones.
My guess is they uses the masters from the UK sets but the Japanese have a way of making CDs sound better.
All the CDs up to Butterfly have both the mono and stereo mixes plus bonus tracks. They tend to puck up all the period tracks but leave out some of the hits.
Sing Dylan in my belief is a stereo fold down to mono so that is why we never see the mono version issued on CD. The Live At Lewisham Odeon tracks are on the Dylan CD plus the great added bonus in a version of Blowin' In The Wind that was recorded and issued only in Germany. It was issued on a promo LP in Germany.
All the rest of the CDs up to Romany include bonus tracks of the period.
The 2 Greatest Hits packages contain all the mono and stereo version of the A & B sides up to the start of their stereo singles. I think they may have missed I Can't Tell The Bottom/Mad Professor Blyth mono versions.
The sad part is that they do work out to be expensive but I really like them all but the 2 GH packages are great.
