I think I know the answer to this already, but did any of the future Hollies see Buddy Holly and The Crickets on their March 1958 UK tour?
Here are the tour dates:
March 1958 Elephant & Castle Trocadero The Crickets
March 1958 Kilburn Gaumont State The Crickets
March 1958 Southampton Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Sheffield City Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Stockton Globe The Crickets
March 1958 Newcastle City Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Wolverhampton Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Nottingham Odeon The Crickets
March 1958 Bradford Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Birmingham Town Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Worcester Paramount The Crickets
March 1958 Croydon Davis The Crickets
March 1958 East Ham Granada The Crickets
March 1958 Woolwich Granada The Crickets
March 1958 Ipswich Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Leicester De Montfort Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Doncaster Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Wigan Ritz The Crickets
March 1958 Hull Regal The Crickets
March 1958 Liverpool Philharmonic Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Walthamstow Granada The Crickets
March 1958 Salisbury Gaumont The Crickets
March 1958 Bristol Colston Hall The Crickets
March 1958 Cardiff Capitol The Crickets
March 1958 Hammersmith Gaumont The Crickets
I know the future Tremeloes were there on the 13th, Mick Jagger on the 14th, and just about every budding musician in Liverpool on the 20th (so much so that Mike Pender considers this to be the date that the whole Mersey Beat scene kicked off). As far as I can tell with my limited geography, none of these dates were near the future Hollies' locations, though could Terry have seen them in Liverpool?

Wasn’t it just about every budding musician in Liverpool EXCEPT any of the future Beatles, or am I getting my stories mixed up?

Liverpool, Wigan, Sheffield and Bradford look the likeliest places for anyone from Manchester being on average within an hour by train. Of course there was bus travel as well but Sheffield and Bradford would demand longer journeys.
