What in the heck were they thinking replacing "THE" Bobby Elliott with a drum machine on Staying Power!?!?
(Ok, but for a serious question, what are some of their favourite deeper Hollies cuts they've played live?)

Years back, I think Ray Stiles actually answered this and I think it was to do with Bobby travelling.

What was the creative process behind the construction of Bernie Calvert's pornstar moustache and was as it in any way influenced by Tony Hicks' top lip tragedy?

yeah Bobby's drums were back at his home plus at the time they thought drum programming was all the rage etc - later for the 'Then Now Always' album his drums were specifically recorded by Mark Jones at MJM Studios
My question would be
- will we ever get the unissued sixties and seventies Hollies tracks together with a completed Hollies 1968 version of 'Marrakesh Express'(with any 'guide vocal') and the lost 1973 second Rickfors Hollies album 'Out On The Road' finally released plus any vintage concert recordings with also a proper sonic overhaul of their back catalogue...?
a dream I know !! - and the answer likely to be NO !
the organ on 'Leave Me' just might have been played by a young Reg Dwight - who apparently is listed as being on the 'Evolution' sessions - Bobby later denied this...but as he was away ill at the time who knows ?

I dunno... I could imagine an answer like " Yeah, we're gonna release a triple CD deluxe edition of "Staying Power", the original mix remastered on CD 1, a new remix on CD 2 with newly recorded real drums by Bobby, and a third CD of outtakes and rarities from those sessions..."

Funnily enough, I sort of indirectly asked Bobby about the state of their back catalogue. Someone interviewed him a few years back, and they asked for questions. They took a comment of mine about their back catalogue on Facebook somewhere else and turned it into a question and Bobby seemed taken aback that anyone was even bothered with their back catalogue! He refused to acknowledge that any of it was difficult to get hold of, because the multi-disc sets contain all the songs...
For me, I'd love some new remastered vinyl. The 2017 deluxe versions of 'Evolution' and 'Butterfly' cut from the master tapes are actually very very good. The mono 'Evolution' is my new go-to for listening to that album on vinyl. I think give a bit more attention to detail to the packaging and then the Hollies SHOULD be considering a mono vinyl box of the Nash years albums plus 'Hollies Greatest', in authentic flipback sleeves. I think it would whip collectors into a frenzy on both sides of the Atlantic. The Kinks, Rolling Stones and Manfred Man have done well out of mono vinyl boxsets, and obviously the Beatles, who showed the world how a proper vinyl boxset should be done!

He refused to acknowledge that any of it was difficult to get hold of, because the multi-disc sets contain all the songs... He is largely right. The vast majority of purchasers merely want to hear the material in good sound and buy it at a reasonable price, something that is very easy for the vast majority of The Hollies' back catalogue.
