Hi All - I’ve been largely absent from this forum for much of the 2nd half of the year and thank those of you who keep posting for keeping this forum alive.
There are some very active Hollies Facebook groups that have probably drawn more of the fan traffic than here in recent times. Nevertheless I will endeavour to post more often here in 2021.
I still have one more Hollies clip rarely seen that I have promised I would post but never did, after launching a few others from mid 70s US TV appearances a year or so back. I will get onto that shortly.
This year’s big Hollies event release was probably Bobby’s autobiography, following 2019’s Allan Clarke solo album. What will be the big ticket item in 2021? Perhaps Malcolm Searles’s exhaustive biographical book on The H? Or maybe Ron Furmanek’s wondrous archival trawl through the 1960s Hollies tape vaults will move a step closer? Or could a long touted Terry Sylvester tell-all text find its way out? Possibly more solo Clarke recordings?
The end of The H as a touring act is never potentially far away. With Bobby and Tony both having birthdays in the last 3 weeks (79 and 75 respectively) the remarkably well preserved duo must have ruminated over such things during these Covid times. I know Bobby was super keen to get back out there and it’s his enthusiasm that continues to drive the live gig schedules. Either one of the two mainstays giving it away would surely spell the end for the current line up. I wonder whether they are thinking 2023 - as the 60th year since issue of the first 45 - would be a time to aim towards wrapping things up? It’s amazing that they continue to this day. I suppose the future is in their hands - literally. Can they both continue to maintain their high standards playing drums and lead guitar with aging fingers and joints? Their live commitment to music is to be much admired.
Anyway, after this remarkably disruptive and challenging year, wanted to wish everyone who lurks here a safe and restful festive season.
Fingers crossed for a more positive 2021!
Best wishes
Simon
