Hi all, I have seen a book on ebay called The Hollies by Mandy Rennie, a paperback and has 58 pages. Does anybody know anything about this book, can't find any reviews on line. Thanks, Anthony

We should all lay bets to see which tome finally crawls over the finish line first: Bobby's long-awaited 'History of the Hollies', or Terry Sylvester's highly anticipated lurid 'Tell-all about the Hollies'.
No doubt, all the smart money will be on Elliott, but after waiting and then waiting some more, perhaps the real bet should be: how many of us will still be around to read the damn thing?

Well, Bobby's book has a title, publisher, release date and price, and is also available for pre-order.
I hope to still be around in April 2020!

Thanks, Anthony Thanks to those who have posted this info about this book. I've just gone on to Amazon to look at a review of a Mandy Rennie book. I clicked on 8 (eight, count 'em!) of her books including hers on The Hollies and there is not a single review of any of them. Even the covers don't look fully formed with any graphics etc. A 58 page book on The Hollies!!! My Hollies on TV master document when formatted may be longer than that! Has anyone summoned up the bottle to cough up for The Hollies (or any other) book she has written? I'm not sure I can!! At the same time, I wouldn't want to diss any product on The H until I had eyeballed it myself. If someone has been brave enough to pay the $$ for a copy, we'd all be indebted to hear a review, no matter how brief. cheers Simon

I must admit that I bought it after reading about it here. It is crap! It contains pics we have seen elsewhere, little text. She probably uses Wikipedia, for instance it features a pic I have taken in Norway. If anyone is interested I could scan the text and upload to Dropbox and give you the link. Here is the Wikipedia Norway site I have written. It might be of some interest to you, especially the references. no.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hollies

I strongly advise you to (a) Give a honest review, and (b) Contact Amazon, informing them of your copyright infringement.

I agree with peterc here Knut. You own that picture and if no permission was given then they are stealing you property. You certainly need to contact Amazon but also the publisher to the tome informing them of the illegal use of your property.

Definitely echo dirtyfaz and PeterC's advice regarding the violation.
3 years ago I had a month trial of an Amazon book scheme operating like a library and there was a whole load of music biographies in there which I "borrowed" generally by authors I'd never heard of. They sounded a bit like this one, amateur deals, badly written and rehashing material I'd read mostly in Record Collector magazine. There was a Hollies biography which caught my eye and was dismal and from what I recall it practically glossed over most of the 70's, 80's and 90's in one or two pages and what came before it was just rehashed stuff with no exclusive content, no musical analysis, nothing about tensions or dramas... just bland and had many wrong facts. I was not impressed by that nor any of the other "books" I read and cancelled the deal at the end of the month having wasted too many hours reading books that no genuine publisher would give the time of day to. I suspect Amazon now has even more such useless "books" for people to be conned by.

Sorry to hear that Knut - thanks for taking one for the team here and heading everyone off at the pass. At the same time, I wouldn't want to advocate you breaking her copyright and dumping her entire book in a portal for everyone to view gratis. Then again, she's burnt you using one of your pics unattributed I assume. I'd be keen for you to post maybe 1-2 sample pages just to give everyone a sense of the publication. I don't think a representative selection would be breaking her copyright based on the principles of fair dealing, and criticism and review. cheers Simon

sorry it's that bad Knut, thank you for taking a punt of buying the book. Sadly as no reviews were about and the book had so few pages I wasn't sure of the book. Now we know

Seems to be a growing trend. I recently discovered an author duo who have 'written' up 100 books and counting, thin bios at a thin price, that are essentially copies of internet articles, produced as 'printed on demand.' Forgetting their names at the moment...
Plus another scheme by author Frank W. Hoffmann. He's gone to the ARSA U.S. radio charts website, and copied and printed these charts into individual radio station volumes. 100+ chart books, available on Amazon. He even 'appropriated' the charts I gave to ARSA from my local home town radio station!

The good and bad thing in these "print on demand" days is that absolutely anyone can publish a book, at little or no cost. A good thing personally, in that I wouldn't have written and published 3 books that I'm very proud of and that have mostly received great reviews; a bad thing in that there is absolutely no quality control. This is why honest reviews are so important, to help sort the wheat from the chaff.

File this under:
'If it's too good to be true, it usually is'
'buyer beware'
'there's a sucker born every minute'

Well it's a perfectly adequate summary of The Hollies' history, told very briefly in under 20 pages with not a single revelation within. So if its length is 58 pages, what's in the other 30 plus pages?
