Hi all, just a quick question. Did the Hollies ever play any of the big festivals like a Woodstock. I know they did farm aid in 1988 and sang he ain't heavy. But I don't know of them doing others. If that is the case I wonder why.

I believe they've played big open air festivals in places like Germany, but I don't know the details.

Hi Anthony! The Hollies and Big Open Airs - not realy. They did in Germany in 1993 a Open Air at the Loreley with the Beach Boys. Maybe this was the largest Open Air they did in Germany. I think, that the Hollies are not a band for large Open Airs. I always loved to hear them in romms with a real great accustic.

I think they could have pulled it off, the Hollies knew how to rock, sadly they didn't often enough. The early to mid 70's especially I feel. The Rickfors era did a good job on that special they were on. I think the good boys image held the band back.

Didn't they do some outdoors stuff in New Zealand?

The Hollies played outdoors concerts in Adelaide, Australia, to audiences of 5,000 in 1970 and 1971. They did another outdoors concert in 1975 that was not as well attended. To the best of my knowledge, they haven't played any festivals Down Under.

Weren't they booked for a festival in Ibiza in 1969/70 but with the Hollies set to take to the stage, the whole show was halted? And the Hollies famously never went to Spain again.
