Everybody knows (or should) that any European band that wants to attain international status simply needs to come to the US. Take for example The Small Faces. They were huge in England and yet made no US visit despite the opportunity that "Itchycoo Park" presented. Had they come to the US to tour they could have shaken their teenybopper image that the UK press created for them and taken their rightful place among the greats of British rock. How about The Swinging Blue Jeans? They were offered a spot on The Ed Sullivan show after "Hippy Hippy Shake" started its climb on the charts. Unbelievably, they turned the offer down! The Marmalade were offered an opening act spot on a tour with Three Dog Night, a band that was packing out large concert halls. The Marmalade could have played to huge crowds here. Instead, they stayed home. Bands can really do their legacy a disservice by ignoring the USA. It can mean the difference between worldwide fame and one-hit wonder status. Thank goodness The Hollies at least made some trips over here and didn't fall into the obscurity trap created by not coming to the US.
