Tony and the rest of the boys scrubbed up well for Bath concert last week. Tony was charm personified at the ‘Meet and Greet’. I had an animated chat with him. All good!

The best lineup was the 1972 Rickfors lineup. Why? The songs! They played “Distant Light” album cuts, previewed cuts from the upcoming “Romany” LP, and did unrecorded songs. (Granted, I could have done without the drab “Only Love can break your heart”). They dispensed with shopworn numbers like Just One Look and Stop Stop Stop. It was the band at its full potential, never to be that way again. Ever.

Same old lines he's been spouting for well over a dozen years now - is he stuck in a rut like a 'skipping' record..?
The Rickfors line up were deemed to be outclassed by The Raspberries at the time, and failed to capitalise on the USA chart success of 'Long Cool Woman' and 'Long Dark Road' ...leading to Mike's exit in 1973 while Bobby Elliott felt they had made an error in picking Mike (who was on the verge of resigning when told Allan was returning)
Terry Sylvester: 'The Americans wanted Allan but we just didn't sound like that anymore...'
the 'Distant Light' tracks were material from the Clarke fronted Hollies...a number penned by Allan Clarke, and even then Terry had to sing 'LCW' and Tony sang most of his 'Long Dark Road'...
- historic facts that will not change no matter how many times this guy attempts to convince eveybody ( & himself ?) otherwise

Sadly Gee you didn't get to see that band and so yr comments sound just like the corporate line. No good without Allan blah blah blah. Like all the lousy journalists on this planet you can always grab a statement or two to suit your argument. You preach the same line to Moorlock regularly using the same comments. I have seen all versions of The Hollies except the Nash period and by far the Rickfors era killed all the others live. In place of Allan they have a multi instrumentalist and that added a huge amount to the live sound. If you just read what Moorlock says it makes a lot of sense and isn't that what a lot of posters on this forum would like to see. These - historic facts that will not change no matter how many times this guy attempts to convince eveybody ( & himself ?) are your historic facts. Sadly almost everyone on this forum didn't see the Rickfors era band live so they don't really know how the band was live. Moorlock and I did. The thing you seem to forget is we are talking live band here.

Caught the band in Aberdeen last night, on the penultimate date of the UK tour. A fine performance, and what a terrific version of Magic Woman Touch. The arrangement with banjo works a treat. Also pleasing to get the full version of Gasoline Alley Bred.
Having last seen the band in April 2018, they have aged a fair bit (haven't we all). I'm afraid I can't help but think the last time I'll see the band is a short while off.
A wonderful evening's entertainment as always.

( I know, I still get frustrated on all the websites though, when ALL they can talk about is Bus Stop!🙄🙄🙄 But, guys....we have each other to talk to!!!!😘❤️😉 [...] Along came "Staying Power", some of us were disappointed and said so and... well... we were no longer welcome and fortunately there was EO for more saner and sensible discussion! I remember that. I was one of those disappointed fans who vented their opinion....

I see some of the German shows have been rebooked into smaller venues.
So many post Covid gigs at the moment probably doesn't help.

A scattering of newer tracks, a few "deep" cuts and the majority of the hits. I do believe they switch things about most tours as well. Then again, this was in London so Mike Love knows we're more appreciative of the less obvious tracks.

Thanks Malc for posting. One day they will surprise us all with a heavily overhauled set list and song order… Yeah right. They never will. Reading this is a disappointment but also entirely expected. If ever they were going to mine a few more back catalogue album cuts, it should have been on this tour. With two years of little work, Bobby and Tony had ample time to relisten to their past albums and maybe fall back in love with some older, non-45 songs. And finishing with the same 3 songs in pretty much every Hollies concert since 1974 eternally does my head in…this also provides the answer for anyone wondering why contemporary music critics stopped writing about them beyond 1975. I love The Hollies but they rarely fail to frustrate me in their refusal to acknowledge their expansive back catalogue in a live venue. Nobody’s asking them to play live ‘For Certain Because’ both sides, start to finish, but maybe we could have SOMETHING else from that album, or a B-Side like I’ve Got A Way Of My Own. Or a lost gem from Romany. Then again, the only time the band has EVER really supported a new album on stage was when Rickfors was around, and that was only due to necessity! (Sigh…) I agree with Simon on almost everything. The Hollies have almost always only played their big hits at concerts. I saw the band live a lot from 1976 to 1993. In 1982/1983, at a concert in Mainz, they included some songs from the 1983 album What Goes Around in the program. Otherwise they often didn't even present their latest single at the concerts (Baby Come Back they only played at one concert of the Germany tour in 1990 - Something To Live For - not at all - also no songs from the current albums from 1976 and 1977. I wish they would do songs by FOR CERTAIN BECAUSE (Peculiar Situation) or the great version - I'm A Rock (Simon & Garfunkel) + my favorite songs from the DISTANT LIGHT ALBUM (A Little Thing Like Love or Do To With Love) would have played live. But - nil - they will never do it again. The question is how long the Hollies will continue to exist as a group. The Hollies are currently touring through Germany. I didn't buy tickets for concerts. I probably would have done it if they had given a concert in our area. Finally: I'm excited about the new CLARKE album, which is supposed to be released in October 2022.
