I came across this performance clip of Heartbeat recently and though there isn't a date of when this was broadcast on the upload, it appears to be the last footage on YouTube with Terry and Bernie in the line-up not long before both made their exits in May 1981. Am I correct in saying this or is there more from this period out there that is or isn't on YT? My second is about the personnel on the two versions of Take My Love and Run. I believe I've read on here before that Terry is on backing harmonies on the first version but then I also distinctly hear Graham on both. Is it a case of Graham and Terry's separate contributions both being featured (similarly to Survival of The Fittest earlier), or am I maybe confusing Brian Chatton's vocals for Terry's and he's not on it at all? Can someone clear this up for me!?!?  |

No, can't remember any tensions. it was a great show. Allan came out first, afterwards, and was relaxed and happy to have a quick chat and sign poster.
Bernie,Bobby and Terry came out together, and again, were chilled and relaxed. I asked if they were going to be in Manchester again soon, and Bobby said they were going up there the next day? ( Don't know what that was, as I understood that the Oxford gig was the last?Maybe it was for other reasons?)
They were all chilled and happy to chat too. Tony had left by different entrance ( 😉 Nothing changes ..)
Didn't sense any tensions on stage either.
( By the way, I was that 21 yr old who used to write a journal......my memory isn't THAT good!!😂)

In the interval there always was a musical performance by well-known artists. I seem to remember that The Hollies were the only guests to perform two songs in their slot. |

I think this video has solved my query about Take My Love And Run. According to the description, recording took place September 2-3 1981, so a few months after Terry and Bernie's departures. It was kind of a silly question of me to ask in the first place as the screenshots in this video reminded me again there's footage of them at Abbey Road recording it, although the isolations here are from the second version with Graham.

I have a tour program, overseen by Bobby,which lists recording sessions, and on that, it says that on that first version, Brian Chatton was singing harmony?( And Brian says this in an interview in Malc's book?) I would imagine that Graham was most definitely put on the cover of the sleeve just for the attention grabbing promo, following their reunion appearance on Top of the Pops with Holiedaze? |

I'm sure there's a bit of that too- they certainly took a while mixing everything at that time...lost a bit of confidence maybe, and took leads from outside people to bring their sound ' up to date'?☺️ |

Brian Chatton took guest high harmony vocal on the first 1981 version of his song 'Take My Love And Run' which was the final Polydor single
They utilised the backing track (like 'Blowin' in The Wind' / 'If The Lights Go Out') slightly amending it with what sounds like some differing percussion (maybe just a remix) retaining Chatton's keytair thing (and possibly his harmonies too) but of course with Graham Nash featuring singing the high harmony vocal on the shorter 1983 version
EMI almost put the 1983 Nash version TWICE on 'Head Out of Dreams' !!!
the 1981 version featuring Brian Chatton (who performed it with them on UK TV) is longer with Allan Clarke calling 'Ahhh...Take my, Take my...' and 'The morning sun...' towards the conclusion which is absent from the later 1983 Nash version so that is the best way to tell them apart
after Holliepops they do 'Take My Love And Run' with Brian Chatton at approx 3 min 04 secs into the posting below
Whilst this looks to be a TV performance set to the 1981 Polydor single recording Brian Chatton's harmony voice fits them well...if he was still around and available they might have got him in later as high harmony vocalist to replace Alan Coates when he left in 2004
Brian Chatton was keyboardist in John Miles Band then.

Here is a live on TV performance on 'The Russell Harty Show' again with Brian Chatton on keytair / high harmony vocal but with additional bass player
after a brief interview they perform the song at approx 2 mins 40 secs into the posting which is clearly done live and not the 1981 single version

and to compare the shorter 'Nash version' of 1983 (2 mins 48secs)
the harmonies do sound very similar to the first version, tho' Nash is clearly on this one and was not on the 1981 version (Alan Coates could also sound very like Nash as well of course) - Nash might just have added his high harmony to the Clarke-Hicks-Chatton original harmonies of course
- note there are no calls of 'Ahh Take my, Take my...' or 'The Morning sun...' from Allan Clarke here and it fades out more quickly than the first 1981 version - Allan's vocal sounds a bit different in places which could be remixing or he did a fresh lead vocal as well
