I just thought these 3 discussions on the Steve Hoffman Forum are well worth a read for all the members here. They are track by track discussions and the thoughts of the participants are very interesting.

I wonder who this Billo guy is...he seems at least as knowledgeable as any of you guys here. Surprised he's not a member of this forum!

A man of many names (on the older 'Elevated Observations' forum he used at least 3 different identities!).

I gave up on the SH Forum a while back. It's just full of argumentative Americans who will pick one sentence out of your 2,000 word essay and have a problem with it in a confrontational/rude way while completely disregarding the rest and if it's not that, it's finding a way to bringing every post back around to the Beatles or if not that, jumping down your throat for starting a new thread when there was one the same posted in 2009 but you didn't use the search bar and re-open an 11 year old thread. It's an absolute nightmare.

It's an absolute nightmare. Agreed! Most entries contain nothing new, are all but illiterate, and are scrawled by halfwits who know as much about The Hollies as I do about Mantovani. A complete waste of time!

If you like the music of bands such as The Moody Blues, Barclay James Harvest, prog rock era Genesis, and the like....then Mantovani's work is very enjoyable to unwind to
The Moodies 'core seven' recording engineer Derek Varnals earlier worked on Mantovani albums for Decca and knew how to record the mellotron in layers of sweeping / surging sound giving it a classical stance when played so skillfully by Mike Pinder - a style that has it's roots in the 'sweeping strings' approach of Mantovani who was such a key figure in the popularisation of stereophonic sound
The Moodies even used the same Decca recording studio where Mantovani had worked

As of late, I've got into light, melodic classical music, including the lush sounds of Mantovani, but confess I know nothing about him or his contemporaries. And really have had no desire to find out more. Simply enjoying the melodies and orchestration. But I must admit, that connection to the Moodies really blew me away!

I also belong to the Missing Episodes forum, which has hardly any bother. They use a similar template to this one, with the added (and imo welcome) differences of (a) Being able to block users posts, and (b) Insisting that people use their real names! I've never seen the point of using aliases anyway.

I've never seen the point of using aliases anyway. Perceived safety in anonymity. Especially for young women. In my case, I tend to prefer to get to know the members first before revealing anything. We're all different. *shrug*

They don't expect full names necessarily. "PeterC" or "LauraB" would be acceptable, though for that particular forum I call myself "PeterCheck".
