'Dang Me' if I can recall now...Is it my imagination or was I reading somewhere a while ago that a Hollies version of this Roger Miller song WAS actually released (or rather 'escaped') as a 'bonus' track on a recent Hollies compilation Compact Disc ?
- very possibly on one of those dubious 'Magic' releases in France...?
I assume it would have been from either 1968 (with Nash - presumably a TV show recording) or 1969 when I know they 'officially' cut it twice for EMI , initially with Allan Clarke also doing high harmony - pre-Terry Sylvester's arriving - and then again later in 1969 with Terry Sylvester on high harmony for the quickly aborted 'Hollies Sing Country' project...
IF 'Dang Me' did come out has anyone got it, what CD was it on, & what actual version was it ?...either : A) 1968 with Nash on TV, B) 1969 with Clarke on high harmony vocal, or C) 1969 with Sylvester
I've run through Amazon (UK & USA) shop listings of their Hollies CDs but can't find any that include this rare song...
I'd assume it would most likely be the 1968 TV 'Nash' version probably 'lifted' off a TV show recording via VHS or DVD.... (yes ?) - Any info much appreciated !
Many Thanks folks !

I can't recall it being released. Only version I've heard is from the Croatia '68 video.

I think you must have dreamt this one! lol. If it has ever been released, it will be on a bootleg, but to my knowledge it hasn't. The Hollies' 1969 studio recording is under lock and key in the EMI vault, the only available recording is the 1968 Festival Of Split concert. It would be nice if one of these record companies like Magic Records who are trotting out these terrible compilations (such as "Little Names"!) would put a "Hollies Sing Country" compilation, like they intended to release instead of "Hollies Sing Dylan" in 1969. I quite liked "Louisiana Man" that was finally released in 1988.

Yeah I must have dreamt it (LOL) - it doesn't appear to have been included anywhere, so must be still unreleased, 'Dang Me' if I can figure why I had got the impression I'd seen it mentioned as a 'bonus' track on some release somewhere....most odd !
the 'Sing Country' album was meant to follow on from 'Sing Dylan'...they cut 'Louisiana Man' , 'The Race is on', 'Kentucky Woman', and re-cut 'Dang Me' with Terry before abandoning the project...a 'Hollies Sing Folk' album was originally meant to complete the trio of such releases - which might explain the county flavoured 'toons' they wrote like 'Please Sign Your Letters', 'Dandelion Wine'etc, and the acoustic folky 'Marigold' song that Allan Clarke wrote...later used on 'Sing Hollies' and as a 'B' side instead as they chose to go all original possibly feeling a set of covers albums might be deemed - then - as being too 'middle of the road' and maybe draw critical flak for being unoriginal ? (as both 'Dylan' & later 'Buddy Holly' sets did despite some very original arrangements)
An interesting Hollies Country set possible compilation has been put up on the official website by a member on there - by also including 'country flavoured' originals plus the odd solo track or two - record companies permitting - there is enough for a 2CD set including most eras of the band.
