The Cliff Richard set turned out to be really good. One disc features 3 complete shows from 1959-1960 in near perfect quality (all Cliff/Shadows segments anyway; songs, interviews, introductions, Cliff reading requests, etc). The other disc features only the songs + some extras from other radio shows in lesser quality. Personally, I prefer Cliff and The Shadows from a little later (circa 1962 to 1966), but this is still a worthwhile release.

"Blue Turns To Grey" was their peak for me. A ballsy disc for that time! I still love The Shadows for the remainder of the decade whilst Cliff, much less so but "Throw Down A Line" is the killer. Magnificent record!

All 4 singles by Cliff in 1966 were wonderful (Blue Turns To Grey, Visions, Time Drags By, In The Country), and I thought he looked good too with his 1963 Beatles' haircut. I've always had a soft spot for the 'Finders Keepers' movie too!

I've always had a soft spot for the 'Finders Keepers' movie too! An interesting year for The Shadows as well with their three fine singles - treasure my 45's of those and always loved surprising people with "Scotch On The Socks" arguably the grooviest track they ever cut - several times pals would say "What? The Shadows? It can't be!" and I'd show them the 45 spinning as proof! Also love the groove of "Snap Crackle And How's Your Dad" as well so was great they were both on the BBC album. Fantastic band who I don't think get the credit they richly deserve with the passing of time. Oh, and a belated thanks for finally enabling many of us to see the TOTP performance of "Don't Make My Baby Blue" - a magnificent song!

This B-side of 'Visions' is another great Cliff and the Shads track from '66 (I could imagine The Hollies doing this - check out the harmonies!):

Seems you were right Baz! Definitely The Swinging Blue Jeans, as Brian Matthew can be heard introducing the group. Lead vocals are presumably by Ralph rather than Ray.

They did for the BBC at least The Baby, Magic Woman Touch, Won't We Feel Good That Morning and Blue In The Morning from the Rickfors period. Only "The Baby" was live (with an enthusiastic audience clapping along.) All the others were the LP versions. (I have the BBC transcription disc.) Also included is an interview with Rickfors (who, contrary to rumour, certainly speaks English well enough) and Sylvester. Hi! Yes, The Baby is totaly different than the Single version. Hands clapping and so on. Another Song with Rickfors on BBC Transcription LP`s is "Slow down"

They did It's A Shame It's A Game with Rickfors? I'd be interested in hearing that if I've read your post correctly!

Hi! If anyone is interested in the complete BBC songs from the HOLLIES including all the interviews from 1963 to 1976, send me an e-mail. All the Hollies songs they recorded for the BBC and all the interviews are on a 5 CD set and in great sound. e-mail to kraft.alfons@web.de I will then send you a scan with all the tracks. There's nothing better. They are taped from the original Transcription LP`s. Believe me - it`s a highlight.

Yes, It’s a great collection. I can confirm Alfons statement. These are great recordings of very good quality. There are live recordings from the Distant Light album (for example: "What a Life I've led"). Since it's my favorite album, it's worth buying for it. Plus many interviews
