Thanks James. My first impression is that it looks dodgy, lacking things like a BBC-approved logo. A close look at the photo also shows that there is clear deterioration on the image, particularly at bottom right. Surely the BBC (or Hollies Ltd) would not be approving such an image. Perhaps it's not the official cover of the disc anyway? At 20 tracks - 12 less than Radio Fun which, for all its faults at least gave you plenty to listen to - unless tracks have been re-edited to re-include Brian Matthew intros and been sourced from better masters, I'd be likely avoiding this. I wonder if Bobby is aware of this?
Granted, I do like the photo, which derives from The Hollies' appearance on Blue Peter (BBC TV, TX: 17/02/64) but a quick glance suggests we are not hearing any previously unissued Hollies BBC tracks. A shame because there are plenty more out there.

It was posted by Hollies (official) which means it is surely an official release.

From their official Facebook page:
"We are pleased to announce the release of Live At The BBC, a 20-track CD featuring The Hollies' live performances at the BBC from 1964-1971, coming out on 26th October."
If that's the case, WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?! The main criticism of the "Radio Fun" set was that it wasn't in chronological order, unlike every single Live At The BBC set in the World ever, and they cut out all the introductions and endings where Brian Matthew had been talking. Have The Hollies taken it on board for this new 'official' release? NO. Who's even in charge of such official releases? They need sacking. The Hollies LTD could have approached most of us here on the forum and we'd have provided them with enough BBC material to fill six discs, all in glittering quality and free of charge.
So will I be buying this release? Of course I will be, I can't help it... *sigh*

Is there anything on this that isn't on Radio Fun or the RSD BBC album from a year or two ago?
I find piecemeal released like this somewhat frustrating: I would love instead for a 'Hollies at the BBC' box in the style of the near-comprehensive Kinks and Marc Bolan sets to be issued: including DVD!

Over on a Shadows forum they are talking about a 'Shadows at The BBC' CD due on 26th October too - could this Hollies release have anything to do with that ?

They did for the BBC at least The Baby, Magic Woman Touch, Won't We Feel Good That Morning and Blue In The Morning from the Rickfors period.

They did for the BBC at least The Baby, Magic Woman Touch, Won't We Feel Good That Morning and Blue In The Morning from the Rickfors period. Only "The Baby" was live (with an enthusiastic audience clapping along.) All the others were the LP versions. (I have the BBC transcription disc.) Also included is an interview with Rickfors (who, contrary to rumour, certainly speaks English well enough) and Sylvester.

Yes I have that transcription disc too. The Baby is certainly a different version compared to the single.

I'm so excited for this. I never got around to purchasing "Radio Fun" so this will be a necessary one for me - can anyone perhaps tell me if the 'He Ain't Heavy' at the end is actually a different BBC recording, or if it's the same TOTP performance that was on Radio Fun? At a glance it seems like all of this new one is the same recordings plucked from that release, just with less tracks - but the description on Amazon for this new one vaguely says "BBC Live Session" for all of the tracks - so I don't know if this is really different, or just mislabeled because this is seemingly a budget release (based on the fact it's in a line with other British Invasion acts, same amount of tracks, same cover art style, same name - and a modest price, close or equal to that of most true budget releases/compilations) - and of course those kinds of releases get minimal amounts of attention to detail really.
Either way, I'm just glad to have a new Hollies CD with material I don't already own in my collection to have, open, etc;. This may be the tip of the iceberg with the supposed Furmanek stuff upcoming but until I have that to compare it to, I'm quite happy to have this around. Thanks for alerting us here, or I may never have found out - being in the US makes being a Hollies fan quite tough sometimes...!

At a glance it seems like all of this new one is the same recordings plucked from that release, just with less tracks You're exactly right. I would opt for 'Radio Fun' if you can, there's some great sleeve notes from Bobby Elliott and some rare photos of the Hollies at the BBC in 1965/6, which I doubt that this budget release will have. I remember when 'Radio Fun' came out, unusually, HMV stocked it on release day. I didn't realise it was a limited release, it quickly sold out and now is £30+ on eBay! Scandalous considering it's shortfalls! But similar out of print BBC sets by the likes of The Tremeloes and Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich fetch similar amounts. Except the latter two are presented as double CD sets, in chronological order, with the band interviews and decent remastering! The BBC radio take of 'He Ain't Heavy' will be the same as the Radio Fun release on the upcoming BBC set. The TOTP version just had a live vocal over the studio recording and isn't really worth having on CD. You may be better with this bootleg: fan-clubvideo.com/store/hollies-the-bbc-sessions-cd/I ordered it a couple of years back, and it has all the Radio Fun tracks, plus a few extras in varying sound quality, spread over two discs and in chronological order. There's 44 tracks in total. It just comes in a slip-case with basic artwork, but the session dates are listed.

I ordered it too, it's been remastered again since 'Radio Fun', some of the tracks sounding significantly cleaner and punchier all-round. Finally on par with the bootlegged TOTP Transcription discs. They seem to have chosen the tracks that have cleaner endings and beginnings, though most have still been clipped and edited. Extremely basic packaging, not a patch on 'Radio Fun', but for £5.99, worth it for better quality audio.

Hi Cameron (or anyone), do you have a full list of UK 50s/60s artists that have had BBC sessions released? I have a few of them (always loved the Zombies set from the 80s), but want to try to complete my collection!

The Beatles have two sets (live at the BBC Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) officially, but there’s a great eight disc bootleg in super quality that you can download on the web that’s got everything Beatles related that they ever did for the BBC.
The Rolling Stones only have “On Air” officially
The Tremeloes Live At the BBC is now long out of print but well worth having as it’s great. They were a great live band as you know.
Ditto Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich, that’s a good set though also long out of print. Both the Tremeloes and DDDBMT sets were mastered in the Netherlands and have a super clean sound, surprisingly using a nice mixture of original off air recordings featuring other DJs than just the infamous Brian Matthew on his overseas Top Of The Pops discs.
The Kinks have an exhaustive “At The BBC” collection which was abridged to a two cd release. If you can get the whole box, it’s well worth it. The mastering is top notch, the sleeve notes impeccably detailed and there’s some really nice stuff there, including alternative performances of similar tracks.
The Small Faces have an official BBC set for their Decca years only, though a very recent set called “Transmissions” which is a bootleg though HMV are stocking it, covers the very very few Immediate era sessions that they did.
There’s popular sets by the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Troggs, Animals, Searchers etc... I think pretty much everyone has had one now. Sadly I’d say that the Hollies’ sets are among the worst in terms of packaging and mastering.

The Small Faces had an earlier BBC set that included 3 Immediate era tracks. It supposedly was the game plan of their current reissue series to eventually release a complete BBC set of both eras, but rumours are the BBC now wants too much money to bring that about. Maybe one day...
The Yardbirds have had about 4 releases of BBC recordings, each one adding a few more tracks. The Move had one release years ago, but the most recent reissue campaign spread out even more BBC tracks across 3 or 4 of their albums.
There's a Gerry & The Pacemakers. The Shadows. Dusty Springfield. I just found out last week that Lulu has a new download only BBC album out, which might not be 'legit' but is now legal, and the sound quality is excellent. Sandie Shaw had a BBC release of her 80s stuff.
Fairport Convention had a 4 CD box, half the tracks covered the late 60s, the other half the early 70s. Sandy Denny had a BBC box, again a mix of late 60s & early 70s.
Many more artists I'm sure...

Thanks Cameron and Robin! Lately I've got much more into audio again rather than just TV/video, so I'm catching up on things.

The Marmalade have a pretty cool BBC set, too but that is also long out of print.
