Like The Beach Boys effectively largely lost Brian Wilson's key falsetto in the later sixties when Brian retired to his bed (!) and had to re-group with Mike, Alan, and especially Carl handling most lead vocals on post 1966 singles...so it's noticeable that while lead singers 'Chip' and Dave are still well to the fore (even Bob later) the Tremeloes distinctive harmony vocal sound later also had to be revised
- 'Chip' did the 'Alan Jardine' role of taking on the high harmonies / falsetto parts for the band after Rick due to his hearing problem could only be guitarist / banjo / guitar-sitar / pedal steel guitarist for them (!)
they sadly lost Rick's shrill falsetto voice from their harmonies, but as that later acapella version of 'Silence is Golden' proved 'Chip' Hawkes did a great job covering for Rick's old vocal part
Rick had sung lead on 'Be Mine' in 1967 but it only reached no.39 in the UK chart

the late great Alan 'Fluff' Freeman ('not arf'!) introduces The Tremeloes here on TV show 'Unforgettable' in 1983 with 'Chip' Hawkes handling Rick's old vocal parts

I think Rick Westwood joins Tony (and Carl Wilson, as well as later Byrd Clarence White) as one of those amazing guitarists that are somehow never featured on any big lists. That multi-track solo sound (I think there's also a little of that on "By The Way" and "Right Wheel..." ) is quite the innovation!

Always makes me laugh when some Beatles fans (not me for one) take the view bands such as The Hollies, Tremeloes were NOT as skilled musicians as the fab four were - there WAS a reason The Trems got that Decca contract on their own merits...
Although I posted this earlier and they are playing along to the single backing of 'Hello Buddy' it gives us an idea of Rick's skills

This was a nice single too - 'By The Way' no.35 in 1970 The single they released instead of the chart-topping (for Christie) 'Yellow River'! A real mistake, despite the quality.

their last big UK hit reaching no.4 in 1970
Me And My Life - sung by 'Chip' and Dave - a rather apt final big hit and a tribute to Dave ....and Alan too
is it my imagination but were the dancing girls sexier, more feminine and more graceful in the way they moved back then...?

Six songs live in Germany back in 1992 (Yellow River / Candy Man / Do You Love Me / My Little Lady / African Lullaby / Angel Of The Morning):
(Not the greatest of quality but worth sharing I think!)

very sad - I believe Dave had underlying health issues too
Blakley-Hawkes wrote a number of their hits and as with The Hollies their original 'B' sides were just as strong as the better known 'A' sides, sometimes their original works were even better than the hit written by so called 'proper' tunesmiths too !
'All The World To Me' was a fine Blakley-Hawkes song maybe worthy of being an 'A' side itself ?

Oh, that's a shame to hear. R.I.P. Dave. ❤ Like I said in an early post on this thread, I'm not really the big dedicated fan of these guys like many of you here, but I do love their '66-'71 run of singles (plus Words), and can admire their musicianship. We also lost one of the original Four Seasons (who of course first recorded "Silence Is Golden"), Tommy DeVito to the virus a few weeks back. 😞

That is indeed very sad news. The Tremeloes were on the same 'package tour' bill when I first saw The Hollies back in 1967 (I was 15). I've seen the Trems quite a few times since then and I always thought they were an excellent live band. Dave had a great voice. I've been looking through my old photos and found these from a Call Up The Groups concert back in 2003 starring The Barron Knights, Marmalade, Fortunes and Tremeloes. The middle picture shows Dave singing with the drummers from the other groups on the bill and the third photo shows Dave singing with Rod Allen (Fortunes) who sadly passed away a few years later. RIP Dave. Another one gone!

Great pics! I really wish I'd gone to more of these package shows now (I rarely bothered until more recent years).
Here's a nice interview + live clip from 1982, featuring Dave, Chip, Rick and Bob:

This song will sound familiar to Tremeloes fans!
And this one will sound familiar to both Tremeloes fans (as 'I'm Gonna Try') and Herman's Hermits fans ('Something Is Happening'):
