Hi All,
Back in the 1990s, I put together Look What We’ve Got (LWWG), a very modest little Hollies newsletter. By 1997, I had staggered along to nine issues before deciding to give it away. I fell out of love for The Hollies for the next few years and anyway, this thing called the internet was starting to become seriously popular – fanzines and newsletters quickly became passé. Few people read LWWG and I felt if I was going to keep researching The Hollies’ career, I should start working on something far more meaty and stop messing around on a measly 10-15 page newsletter. But…in the back of my mind, I always wanted my newsletter to hit double figures. No good reason except an irrational notion that reaching double figures was somehow, um, an achievement. Well, 18 years later (my god, really? that long?) I decided on a whim to put that tenth issue together.
Writing commenced in October last year when I took some long service leave to stay home and look after my 12 month old son while my partner went back to work. During his daytime sleeps, rather than do useful stuff like y’know, house work, dinner preparation and odd jobs around the house, I started formulating what will become issue #10.
In this ‘special issue' presently in the final stages of writing (the plan is I will have the writing completed by June 30), LWWG #10 will feature more than 25,000 words of exhaustively researched, fact filled articles for the discerning Hollies nerd!
The front cover is done (which I reckon looks cool - I can say that because I didn't do it!) but otherwise, layout is still to be undertaken pending completion of the writing.
I'm still investigating how this will be released. Most likely either as an eBook or a PDF. I will also get a very small number of printed copies made up. Due to the costs, these will be far pricier. More details as they are finalised.
I struggle with self-promotion as it makes me feel personally uncomfortable (that's just me), but I am prepared to say there is lots of info here you won’t have read previously anywhere else.
Completion date - hopefully 1 August (by which stage everyone will have acquired Brian Southall's book and lost any further interest in the band!)
There are no plans for LWWG#11 following this. Instead I will be pursuing another aspect of the band's career in writing - again, more in future updates.
Cheers,
Simon
