One of my old mates does a Breakfast Show on a local radio station, Black Cat Radio based in St Neots (Cambs) and this morning he chatted on the phone with Allan about his forthcoming album and new single 'Buddy's Back'. First of all, the station played Look Through Any Window then Allan chatted about the early days, the influence Buddy Holly had on their career, Bruce Springsteen and then how he and Graham put the album together. Allan also passed on his best wishes to Graham Gouldman, who wrote LTAW and who is appearing on the breakfast show tomorrow. Then they played Buddy's Back. I don't think there is a live link to the chat but here is a link to the radio station in case I've missed it: blackcatradio.org/

19 May sees the new album by Graham Nash titled 'Now' released which has 13 songs also including 'Buddy's Back' (track 10 as opposed to Allan's being track 8 on the CD versions)
- wonder if it will be the same track in a duet with Allan or a Nash solo version ?
Graham's album is also a BMG release as is Allan's - no further details so not sure if Allan appears on the set
one CD disc but a 2LP version with 'Buddy's Back' track three on the second record, for both Allan's and Graham's respective new albums
Ironic 'Ricky & Dane Young' are both releasing new solo albums...while Tony & Bobby just do tours....

I'm almost certain that 'Buddy's back' on Grahams album will be solo ...

And the rather sweet thing is that apparently (from recent interview) the track " I'll never forget" is Allan's ' partner' song,if you like, and is all about their younger days too. π

Ironic 'Ricky & Dane Young' are both releasing new solo albums...while Tony & Bobby just do tours.... Yes... an absurd situation but let's be honest, do we really want/need a new "Hollies" album? Hate to admit it but I'm as interested in a new Hollies album as Bobby and Tony are as interested in their classic albums... not at all!

Here goes my mini review after listening a few times over on YouTube...π
I'll start by getting my biggest dissapointment out the way. Unfortunately, it seems like the over-computerized production is all over this album, something I feared when Buddy's Back first came out. It's probably at its worst on the very cluttered opener (You Need Someone To Save You), and prevents some of the rootsy tracks (particularly The Presence Of You) later on from feeling like fully raw and authentic performances. But hey, maybe this complaint is just me, and I'll get used to it in time.
With that aside, the songs are an interesting mix of styles and of course, it's great to hear Graham singing harmony on so many of them. The title track is really a wonderful tribute by Allan to their friendship and the chorus sounds very Hollies-esque. My other favourites would have to be Buddy's Back (which I've already posted my thoughts about in other threads), You Didn't Like It (a nice breezy tune that reminds me a little of Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance), and Let's Take This Back To Bed (mainly for Allan's harmonica which really shines on the solo. Also, is it me, or is there some weird editing on the vocals at the end of this song?).
On the other tracks - though I don't like the production, You Need Someone To Save You did lyrically take me back to The Very Last Day, which might appeal to some here. When Love Walked Out The Room sounds like Allan's attempt at a Roy Orbison-type ballad, which he pulls off very well. It would be right at home with the material from The Big O's Mystery Girl album. Movin' On, You Shone A Light, and Maybe The Next Time are all good, but don't do too much for me (maybe yet!). Finally, I thought Who Am I was a bit of a weak choice to end the album on. I think it would have sounded better as the second track and that I'll Never Forget should have been the closer instead.
So yeah, it's a decent collection of songs and I'm really glad they're finally here, but part of me wants to say I still prefer Resurgence. Maybe it's to do with the fact this album was on and off in the works for three or so years amidst global chaos, as well as Allan and Graham recording their parts from separate sides of the pond. However, they both should be extremely proud of what they've achieved on this release, especially at their ages, as well as after many years of not singing together! ππβ€οΈ
Looking forward to reading you guys' thoughts and album highlights! π

Only listened to about 6 tracks so far, mixed bag, like how Grahams harmonies work, don't like 'You didn't like it' disagree re 'Who am I' think that's very much Clarkie,I heard it pre-release and it's my go to earworm...!! Think it's gonna end up if we could only have one album to keep from the last 2 then it would for me be 'Resurgence' .....
