I like Crazy Steal. I think it's their last good true Hollies album because they wrote eight of the ten songs. They did make some effort on it, albeit the three singles were more attempts to follow up on The air that I breathe. I agree it is heavy on ballads and the cover is not good. I think it is much better than 5317704, Buddy Holly and What goes around where there was little or no attempt at writing. I remember Terry Wogan would occasionally play Burn out, one of the more rocking tracks from Crazy Steal, on Radio 2 in the late '90's and early '00's.
I think they must have been disappointed that Hello to romance and Amnesty both failed to be hit singles in any territory just after the UK success of the Hollies Live album while they were recording the rest of the album.
