A Tony crony I know spotted an unusual credit under Tony's entry on IMDB. It says he played drums on the soundtrack for an episode of an '80s BBC Scotland series called "Tutti Frutti." Of course, that database isn't 100% accurate and his name is fairly common--I've even heard of an Aussie jazz drummer who goes by the same name. But I have heard that our TH has been known to play drums on the side. Is this the case here? Here's the link to the imdb entry: www.imdb.com/name/nm0382977/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1And here's part of the episode in question. If nothing else, it's fun to see Emma Thompson decked out in Teddy Boy finery.

I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if that is our man on this recording. I've never heard he picked up a set of drumsticks at any stage, ever, so if you have news on this, I'd be really fascinated to see it. There was of course Tony Hicks, the English drummer who appeared in the UK 70s jazz trio Back Door. Google that and you will see that this 'Tony Hicks' drummed on plenty of releases. I think it was in a Vox Book of Music listing rare records (or something) that I saw the Hicks from Back Door become confused with our talented axeman. I'm guessing some of these references may have started from this printed mention.

I've only seen the factoid about TH drumming on the side in a couple of '60s articles, including one of those NME "Lifelines" lists of vital stats. Oh, and here too. www.malibooz.net/queensenglishstory.htmlCould be just on a hobby basis, or, assuming he was into making home demos at some point, just to add some rudimentary percussive flavor to his home recording projects. But presumably Bob could've taught him a few pro techniques over the years.
