I just found out that "Out on the Road" was released on cassette tape (German Hansa). Does anyone have a copy?

No, not I Moorlock and never seen one either. In terms or original releases for 'Out On The Road', I have the two confirmed LP releases (Spain and Germany) both on vinyl, plus a British Trident acetate LP. But not a tape! Have you got anything aside from Spain and Germany issues?
The album was listed for release in some Aussie mags at the time (1973) too, and there was once an Aussie test pressing that found its way for sale online, though the album was never issued here in Oz. Plus there are the apocryphal tales of its release in Mexico, The Philippines and other far flung places, stories of which I'll consider 100% bogus until a copy actually appears one day to dispel such cynicism.

The playing order is different on the cassette, with "Mr. Heartbreaker" being the second track on Side One.

The playing order is different on the cassette, with "Mr. Heartbreaker" being the second track on Side One. A too common quirk of cassettes from the 70's which took liberties shuffling running orders about sometimes to baffling effect. That might be an ideal topic for another thread (if it doesn't yet exist) listing the track orders on old cassettes.

The new LP was announced by Bobby in the Hollies' UK Fan Club letter at the time. I can't remember exactly which two tracks changed places, but the running order wasn't quite the same. I only saw this in passing at someone's house a few years ago, they still had the original fan club news sheet. Bobby talks through each song and describes what happens, who plays what, who sings what etc... From memory, no definite date was given for the release in that newsletter. Discogs lists the German cassette release. But there's no photos and no one has marked that they own it. I've never seen one. Allegedly one of the CD bootlegs of the album (I think the 'Mikael Rickfors Years') uses the slightly better cassette source. www.discogs.com/The-Hollies-Out-On-The-Road/release/14367810

I recall reading reviews of the Magic (France) CD reissue from 2006, where 1 reviewer on the Hoffman forum trashed it because of the horrific sound, claiming it had been dubbed from the cassette instead of the LP (though the track listing running order of the Magic CD follows the LP, not the rearranged track order from the cassette). Another reviewer on Amazon US trashed the Magic CD for (a) being in mono, and (b) for sounding hollow & shrill, like it was being fed thru a long pipe! I responded back that my Magic CD copy was in stereo, and the sound was not horrible, could have been better, but nowhere near horrible. Maybe Magic released 2 versions of this on CD, 1 horrible, and 1 much much better? And/or maybe one cassette version of this was horrible?

I expect that any release of the album not from the original master tapes will attract criticism from fans, especially casual fans who are perhaps more into record collecting/HiFi than they are the music itself. I've seen some truly terrific albums torn limb from limb on the Steve Hoffman forum because of the sound quality, stereo mix or standard of the reissue. So I expect that these reviews will be more in line with this thought process.
The Hansa LP is actually quite hard to copy as it's very bass heavy and has a lot of mid-range on the pressing, so naturally carries a lot of sibilance (the "SSSS" sound on vocals and drum cymbals), so it's hard to copy. Transferring cassettes is difficult too, as often they're pressed at twice the speed to speed up the manufacturing process, so the fidelity of cassettes is less. It wouldn't be until the 1980s that the music industry generally mastered pressing cassettes to the optimum quality that the format is capable of.
Having said that, I wasn't hugely impressed with the rather flat sounding transfers on the 'Changin Times' set, so I expect the fault of the sound on 'Out On The Road' lies in the original master tape. Though I have to admit, I was just glad to get the tracks on CD officially finally, having wore out my own vinyl rip of it for years!
