My former neighbor Marty used to chide me for the numerous versions of "Romany" I have in my collection. Now I may have the ultimate "Romany". This is a USA manufactured 8 track tape of dubious legality. Sold at truck stops, it screams "New Release" on the sleeve, and features a unique playing order, beginning with "Touch". The title track is repeated, making a total of 12 tracks. I found this thing on Ebay recently. A "Romany" boot; imagine that.

My personal "ultimate collectable" is an advance copy of 'Butterfly' with the EMI promo sticker on the label, sent out by Radio Luxembourg with the original dispatch note still on the front from the Radio Luxembourg headquarters.
I have 'Romany' on 8-track too. It was one of the first and only 8-tracks I bought from America. It was still sealed and I opened it. After the first play, the tape snapped! It's no wonder the format never truly caught on. I know they can be repaired, but you effectively ruin the plastic case in doing so.

I had an 8 track player in my car in the 70s. Every so often it would eat a tape. I guess it got hungry.

Not exactly sure what I have counts as an ultimate collectable or if I'm underestimating it but my vinyl copy of Confessions Of The Mind has a "factory sample NOT FOR SALE" sticker on the label of the record itself. I bought at my record store back in June but haven't played it because of this and I've been meaning to get round to posting about it since. I can take pics if anybody wants to see. ☺

I wonder what my rarest Hollies record is. Maybe BBC Top of the pops LP with an otherwise unobtainable version of The Baby? Or The Baby acetate on Apple?

I would guess the Apple acetate would be the rarest as the BBC pressed and distributed a few copies of those Top of the Pops shows whereas acetates are genuine one offs.
