A fantastic comeback song if you ask me! đ I quite like how Allan's voice sounds with age. Of course, it's not as strong compared to his Hollies days, but I think the range he is in now adds to the charm of the song and makes him convey his lyrics with a strong sense of wisdom.
I have a good feeling about the rest of the album from this. I really hope we start seeing some more promotion - some from the current Hollies or even Graham would be extremely beneficial!

You'll not get anything from the current Hollies, might pop up on Rob's official Hollies site in 6 months or so.....

Nice song. Vaguely reminds me of the direction Springsteen is going in currently and he always seemed a hig inspiration for Allan do it fits!
Will be interesting to hear how his voice sounds over the course of a whole album.
Seems to me this is very much Allan as artist as opposed to Allan as Hollies front man.

Sounds great! For all the "he can't sing anymore" reports of 20-odd years ago, he actually sounds no worse than (say) Paul McCartney does these days. Can't wait for the album.

But the âNow-Holliesâ are very lazy, when it comes the Social media or something like that. Iâm also not sure if they really care. Help from Graham would be great. Especially as he always talks about their special relationship. But when it counts Graham was almost always the knobhead in the past in my view...

Think Allan sounds great with age. What a thrill for him to have the album coming out. I think its great that Allan does this himself, don't agree that Graham should help promote things. This is Allans baby,

Enjoyed the song. Stranger, you took the words out of my mouth. When listening the first time I thought very Springsteenesk. Nothing too wrong with that. Great that it basically is a guitar song without too much keyboards if any.

I don't have a subscription (in the US of course)... would anyone be able to copy and paste the contents here to continue reading? Looks like a good article from the preview, and a nice photo there from the Haydock era too.

Sounds fine. Clarke was always good with the country thing; his voice lends itself well to the genre.

I don't have a subscription (in the US of course)... would anyone be able to copy and paste the contents here to continue reading? Looks like a good article from the preview, and a nice photo there from the Haydock era Allan Clarke left the Hollies 20 years ago to support his wife, who was being treated for cancer. Now the founding member of the group responsible for hits including He Ainât Heavy, Heâs My Brother and The Air That I Breathe is making a comeback and hoping to bring Graham Nash, of Crosby, Stills & Nash, a fellow Hollies founder, along for the ride. Clarke, 77 and unfazed by the transformation of the music industry by new technology, secured a new record deal after teaching himself how to use a common music-making program on his computer. Clarke, who lives in Buckinghamshire, retired from music in 1999 when he decided to spend as much time as possible with his wife, Jennifer, who had received a second diagnosis of cancer. âWe didnât really know what way that was going,â Clarke said. âSo I made up my mind that I would stay at home and look after my wife for as long as we had left. And sheâs still with me. Weâve been married 55 years. He is releasing Resurgence, an album of new songs he composed using the music program Garageband. His history with the other members of the Hollies is chequered. Nash left in 1968 to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash. Clarke left twice. His first departure, in the early 1970s, was an ill-tempered split over the direction of the band. He rejoined in 1973 but later struggled to hit the high notes. He said that his retirement had been comfortable because of the continued success of his hit Long Cool Woman, which he said was like a pension. âLetâs say this â I donât worry but I wouldnât put myself in Paul McCartneyâs bracket.â When the Hollies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 the present members of the band declined to take part because they were working, but Clarke and Nash did attend. âThat one thing got us back together, speaking more to each other,â Clarke said. The pair have discussed the idea of reforming their Hollies partnership for a new album, although they will not be able to call themselves the Hollies. He suggested that he and Nash would attempt to record an album next year, free from the tension they once had. âWe donât have arguments any more,â he said. âThe band is still working. I have to smile and giggle because there isnât an original player in the band,â he added.

Thank you for posting the article, Tony! Interesting stuff - an album with Graham would be great but I kinda doubt it will happen. Saying in the current Hollies there isn't an original player, is pretty offensive and disappointing, though. I wouldn't say it's "Terry twitter level" but hints in that direction. I mean it is technically true but very wrong on so many levels. Perhaps we can be happy that he doesn't use twitter...
I was actually a bit disappointed by the recording at first. I was surprised by how well he could sing again and the song is nice enough but this garage band thing just doesn't sound sonically as good as I was hoping - on the other hand I have warmed to the idea of him doing it all by himself - independently from a big studio. I don't know of anyone his age having done such a move. So it is pretty a pretty innovative thing and I kinda changed my mind and will accept it for what it is and look forward to hear the whole thing. Maybe this is his entry back into the world of music making and who knows... maybe we even get an album with Graham which would most certainly not be recorded on garage band.

That's an uncalled-for and pretty cheap shot Clarke took at the current 'Hollies', and the thought of categorizing Hicks and Elliott as mere 'replacement' Hollies, really boggles the mind. Clarke really had to go out of his way to hurl that low blow. For a group that once seemed to project the very epitome of group harmony, the wheels have sure come off the Hollies wagon recently. Let's see now: Sylvester disses Clarke and Nash, Clarke disses Hicks and Elliott, everyone seems to be thumbs down on Sylvester. Only The Hollies 'lesser lights' seem to have escaped the cheap shots lately. I suppose they're too low in the pecking order to be worth bothering with. 'Old and cranky' would appear to be a suitable term to describe several characters here. At least I haven't heard Graham crap on any of his old band mates lately. Don't know if he's taken the high road on this, or whether he considers The Hollies members too trivial to merit comment, but I believe he's wise to give his old band a wide berth.

I think thereâs some âold woundsâ that perhaps get sorer as the years go on and nothing gets said. Tony Hicks is famously matter of fact and wonât suffer drama for a second. Youâll never get him to comment on it all. Bobby seems to take a very diplomatic approach and perhaps play the devilâs advocate in some cases - Iâm thinking of a 1968 radio interview where Graham is lamenting at fans who scream and Bobby interjects with âI like them screaming!â, for example. The Hollies and their inner circle have a real habit of blocking out anyone who doesnât see their vision - several of us here arenât allowed to be a part of the official Hollies forum for this reason. I was told recently that this is also the reason that their official newsletter âCarouselâ died a death, as they were given orders not to report on ex-members of the Hollies.
I agree that the last comment from Allan was a cheap shot, but I guess the current Hollies to a degree have slightly erased Allanâs legacy somewhat in pushing Peter Howarth as âtheâ lead singer of the Hollies. He even makes stage patter like âwe had a hit in 1969 with...â, the key word being âweâ. Itâs all rather trivial, but for someone who didnât want to leave, I can completely see why it eats away at Allan. Though I think he may have just talked himself out of any promotion on the official Hollies website! Not that that was hard to do.

Back to the thread in question, yesterday, âResurgenceâ crept into the top 200 best-seller list for Amazon Music. So fingers crossed that itâs selling very well! I really hope that this LP is a huge success for Allan, as it will validate his return to music and perhaps inspire him to continue to make new music.

Overreaction guys. Allan has "smile and giggle" in that statement and that indicates to me the statement was a little tongue in cheek. We also don't know the full interview with The reporter and in this day and age are notorious for using quotes to get a cheap reaction.
