I know there are more songs to the top concert clips. Bus Stop, Heavy LCW can't think if there was more to the concert, For a line up that was only together for 2 odd years they sure put out a big body of work.

The band would have gone from strength to strength had they persisted or brought back in after Allans retirement instead of the present ****poor incumbent....

These clips really make you appreciate the uniqueness of this line-up. Of course, Mikael is no Allan, but if there is a comparison to make, he's likewise a passionate singer in a league of his own, and perhaps that's what the other members saw (and heard) in him when they brought him in. The fresh rock/soul/folk blended sound and song selections they took on with Rickfors during his brief time is like nothing else The Hollies did before or since, and on top of that, he helped give new life to live renditions of classic songs like Long Dark Road and He Ain't Heavy. It's also great that Tony and Terry got more opportunities to take lead vocals during this era, although I guess it was necessary for them to take those that were out of Rickfors' deep range.
I do wonder if Mikael was considered or even rejected an offer to front The Hollies again after Allan's retirement.

I doubt very much, particularly as all concerned looked back on it as a bit of a mistake. Anyway, even after many more years of experience, I can't ever imagine him being the confident front man and great singer that Carl Wayne was.

Was luck enough to see The Hollies with Carl on their 2001 Australian tour seeing them Mon 5th MELBOURNE AUS Crown Casino Wed 7th CANTERBURY Canterbury-Hurlstone Park Club Thurs 8th TWEED HEADS Twin Towns on the Gold Coast. Even sat in on the soundchecks in Melbourne and the Gold Coast. That was a blast as Carl talked to us there as well. Went to the UK convention in 2000 at Eastbourne and was fortunate enough to sit in on the sound check and see the show there. My sole purpose of the UK trip was to see the Hollies as often as I could during this time. Places like Bath, Tunbridge Wells, Hemel Hempstead, Basingstoke and a few others. Not only was he a nice guy he was also a great singer and frontman. The Hollies were worse off for his passing.

From all accounts he was a top bloke, gracious and giving, truly professional, a perfect frontman. To this day, there remains tensions between various ex members of The Move but during his final years, they all got along with Carl and he worked overtime trying to help track down lost master tapes and multitracks, determined to see that The Move would get decent reissues and their legacy treated with respect. I think what rubbed many up the wrong way was the speed in which The Hollies replaced him which even I was alarmed about at the time.

That's amazing, only saw him at the Melbourne show, he was a great front man, brilliant voice. spoke to a lot of UK hollies fans and they were not that complimentary about the last period of the Hollies before Carl joined. He brought life back into the group, love the Hollies version of Flowers in the Rain. in Melbourne he was very respectful of Allan Clarke. I believed they filmed a concert, sadly that will not see the light of day.

Not footage, but for anyone interested, I did bring this up in another Rickfors thread. The original version of "Touch", recorded by his earlier band Bamboo in 1968. This version sounds like it was heavily influenced by The Doors' song "Spanish Caravan"!
