Amazon are currently doing a free UK delivery offer on your new book, Peter so I've ordered my copy. As an aside, we used to go and see Mud and Sweet before they became famous. They used to do the pub and club circuit about 1970/1 and appeared regularly near my then home town in Nottinghamshire. Mud often used to visit The Golden Diamond in Sutton-in-Ashfield and Sweet were at The Storthfield Country Club in South Normanton just over the border in Derbyshire. You could see then what talented bands they were and both were destined for success. When I spoke to Ray Stiles at a Hollies Convention some years ago, he fondly remembers the Mud early days and appearing at The Golden Diamond. Thanks John, appreciate it.
The Sweet and Mud are both underrated, in particular the latter who are often dismissed as lightweight. I ended up (more or less) naming my book after a Slade song, but it could just as easily have been by the Sweet and Mud.
Am I the only one misses The Hollies performing 'Tiger Feet'?

Congrats again on your first book, Peter. I see the latest Mojo issue March 2019 (Joni Mitchell cover) gave you a good review, p. 115... Thanks Robin!
The book was reviewed by 'Mojo', 'Record Collector', 'Ugly Things', 'Thunderbolt', 'The Beat' (twice), 'Making Time', 'The Strange Brew' and 'The Daily Beatle', with every one of them being favourable, has received an average of 4.6 stars on Amazon UK and 5 stars on Amazon.com, and was featured on 'Radio Merseyside'. So, to say I'm pleased with how my first book as gone is an understatement! Really thrilled with the response.

Peter, and all: Did anyone happen to get a copy of the book "Rock & Pop On British TV" by Jeff Evans? Released Feb 2017, 336 pages. It looks interesting, says it covers the pop music shows of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, the new millennium, with 2 picture sections. The reviews on Amazons UK & US are minimal, so it's hard to tell if it's any good. The Amazon text samples of the intro and the 50s don't tell much either. Does it talk mostly about the shows, and little about artists? Or some of both? Would like to get some opinions if anyone has any. Cheers!!

I wasn't even aware of it when researching 'Channelling the Beat!', and I guessed (perhaps wrongly?) that it would be of little use when researching 'Look Wot They Dun!'. I'm currently working on a 3rd book (I will keep details secret for now in case it doesn't work out), then after than I plan to take the summer off so that I can spend more time relaxing, and read other author's books simply for enjoyment rather than research.

Hi All, Today I published my 3rd book (and my last music/TV book for the foreseeable future), details are below:
‘THE BEATLES – TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE (The Ultimate Guide to John, Paul, George & Ringo on TV and Video)’
Press Release:
‘From The Beatles’ performance of ‘Some Other Guy’ at The Cavern in August 1962, to Paul McCartney’s video for ‘Who Cares’ in December 2018, this book lists every known TV performance, promotional video and live concert telecast by The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
Aimed at both casual fans and fanatical collectors, this very readable book also includes chart positions, band line-ups, anecdotes and more, as well as featuring spin-off groups like The Plastic Ono Band, Wings, The Traveling Wilburys and The All-Starr Band.
The author of the acclaimed ‘Channelling The Beat! (The Ultimate Guide to UK ‘60s Pop on TV)’ and ‘Look Wot They Dun! (The Ultimate Guide to UK Glam Rock on TV in The ‘70s)’, Peter Checksfield has been collecting and researching music TV footage for nearly 40 years. He now puts that knowledge and experience into ‘The Beatles – Tell Me What You See’, which really is The Ultimate Guide to John, Paul, George & Ringo on TV and Video!’

Hi All, It’s been a year since I finished writing ‘CHANNELLING THE BEAT!’, and in that time much new info has surfaced. So I’ve now updated it, and published a ‘REVISED 2nd EDITION’.
Included are new and revised entries on The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, The Pretty Things, Cliff Richard, Adam Faith, Billy Fury, Cilla Black, Clodagh Rodgers, Billie Davis and many more.
Combined with a cleaner , more user-friendly, lay-out (including an alphabetical contents list), has resulted in the book being expanded by almost 100 pages! Links to the UK and USA Amazon sites are below:

Thanks for your interest!
Peter Checksfield (May 2019)
PS. Also still available are ‘LOOK WOT YOU DUN!’: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1795757310

Peter, I went ahead and got a copy of "Rock & Pop On British TV" by Jeff Evans, that I had asked about up above. Just finished reading the 76 page chapter on the 60s. While I found it interesting, it was also a little dry. It covered a multitude of shows I don't remember or never heard of, some lasting merely several months, discussing each show, what it was attempting to do, who hosted, and mentioned a lot of pop acts that appeared. The show descriptions weren't entirely clear though, was it a music show, a talk show, etc.? There are mentions of pop artists that appeared, but did they play (or mime), or just talk?
For example the BBC's "How It Is", which ran for 5 months in 1968. A show for the youth, covering various topics of interest to the younger set, with multiple pop artists mentioned as having appeared including the Small Faces. But no song titles, so I don't know what this or the other shows were all about.
Thought you might find this interesting. I would think you'd need to check it out if you haven't already, to possibly help fill in some blanks, or to discover that there is in fact nothing here that would help with your research.
Cheers...

The Move were a bit of everything during their life-span, but as they evolved into both The Wizzard (definitely glam) and The Electric Light Orchestra (quasi-glam in their early days), I just had to include their 70s performances.

Peter, I was more of a fan of 70s music in general, not in glam specifically. It's probably too much to shoot for, but I would be more interested in a wider encompassing pop/rock 70s book than glam only. If you know what I mean, jellybean...

Peter, about the re-do of your 60s book, do you have any say into what pages Amazon offers for their 'look inside' feature? I'm looking in the contents of the 2nd edition, and the artist pages are missing for pages IX & X. It would help me & others to see not only the artists on these missing pages, but also to see the change in the number of pages per artist from the first edition. So we can decide whether to purchase it again... Cheers!

I'm not keen on either AOR or hard rock, nor am I much of a fan of punk/new wave (except some poppier acts such as Blondie). I'm certainly not giving up writing music-related books, but I want to attempt something that isn't TV/video related next time.

That's so true. I think few bands at the time (or since) really evolved nearly as much as The Move did in their short existence - surely driven by Roy's Bowie-like musical drive of always hopping onto the next period before the previous one had truly finished! Indeed, Wizzard is interesting in that they're totally glam as far as the visual presence goes and surely some of the big singles but overall have a very non-glam existence at the same time (surely no glam act had a B-side like The Carlsberg Special, haha!). And still had lots of cellos and other Wood-esque qualities that really singled them out. It's too bad they are sort of marginalized as only glam when it seems like the perfect grouping of all of Roy's tastes and qualities. I totally agree, the early ELO was totally glam (whether people believe it or not, it's an argument I totally agree with). I do love all of the eras of their work but I never thought they were better than they were on the first two LPs in music, style, and sound. But to each their own, I'll stay listening to "First Movement (Jumping Biz)" while everyone else across the globe listens to "Mr. Blue Sky", haha! Glad the Move will get more of their proper due in TV performances (especially from 1970-1972!!) so I'm ecstatic to read - thanks for the link!!

Hmmm... interesting that it varies viewer to viewer. I looked again today, and some of yesterday's missing pages are now there, but others that I could see yesterday are now missing! Could you maybe add the artists and page #'s into a review on Amazon? I can't help but think it would result in more sales... Thanks!

I don't want to add too much info... people are more likely to buy the book if they CANNOT see everything they're looking for!
